| Danzig – Twist of Cain Lyrics | 1 year ago |
| 'Tis about Cain and Abel as most have stated. An interesting fact about it is that James Hetfield added to back up vocals without any credit given on the album. You can totally tell it's him when you listen. He was just hanging out with GD in the studio. Apparently, James is on a couple other songs off this album as well... | |

| Wow. The stupidity is boundless with this one. Please, please don't ever procreate. | |
| Queens of the Stone Age – Misfit Love Lyrics | 3 years ago |
| This song, and generally, the whole album is great to smoke a blunt with (stoner-rock appropriate). I had a long commute home a couple of years ago, and very much enjoyed getting chinese-eyed and listening to this very song. The beginning riffs and the little fills here and there, are like a musical wonderland. I noticed so much more while high than not. | |

I luuuuuuve the line, “...cut off your hair, straighten your curls. Well, your problems hide in your curls.” I interpret it that she’s pretty and he’s telling her that her beauty is a problem. Even though this is an unfair statement, life is unfair. |

| Type O Negative – 3.O.I.F. Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I spoke with Peter Steel at the bar before a gig, and he told me that this small sound bite represents a motorcycle crash he had back when he was thirty. It must have been bad enough to where he might not have lived, but of course he did, and produced all the great music afterward. Apparently, the monicker, "30 IF: means, something like, "What if I had died in that motorcycle crash back when I was 30." I thought it was meaningful. |

| Tom Tom Club – Genius of Love Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song has great music, and the lyrics are definitely hard to put your finger on. One thing that I cannot ignore is the last couple of lines. It almost seems like the song has to do with the size of her boyfriend's penis. Think about it, "...He's the genius of love, he's so deep." What in the world does the reference to being a genius, have to do with love? Then, the succeeding line about "being deep". I don't know, this song seems to be about so many things. Overall, an excellent piece of work. |

| Metallica – Eye of the Beholder Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
Yeah, yeah, yeah--injustice, perversion of truth, disenfranchisement, etc. No one has addressed what the paragraph that is sung three times in the song is about, that goes: Doesn't matter what you see, or into it what you read, you can do it your own way, if it's done just how I say. I am not certain, but there seems to be a bit of irony here. It could be that James is declaring a call to arms against the government, in a covert sort of way, or that he is pointing out what GregL touched on. Sort of like, if I hate the government, and this song sounds like a song that is about hating the government, then I will subscribe to the meaning of this song. Even though James is possibly making fun of people like this, in this song. For instance, 99% of this song might have lyrics that are saying things like, "government is corrupt, I hate the government, etc.". Then a tiny paragraph in the song is saying, "See, I can make you join a cause, by manipulating you with 99% of the lyrics to my song". Subscribing to a certain theory or cause, just because superficially, it sounds like what they want to believe in. James is ironic that way. Although I am leaning towards the call to arms thing. James Hetfield is very cool. |

| Metallica – Dyers Eve Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| MetalliFreek has got it. This song is a suicide song, and the lyrics represent a note written to the person's parents--hence, the title "Dyer's Eve". The note is written on the eve of the the suicide. | |
| Coldplay – Yellow Lyrics | 19 years ago |

The first time I understood what this song said, I thought it was about his child. Then I thought about my children. The "skin and bones" part reminds me of how children 4 or under are really skinny with round bellies. What really drove it home was the fact that all three of my children had Jaundice when they were a few days old (fairly common) and they looked yellow for about a week after birth. Anyone who has had children understands how a person would "jump across" or "bleed themself dry" for them. I agree with Shiner. |

| The Cult – Sun King Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| This is a classic Cult tune. It is my personal favorite. It has a great "rock" to it. In 1990 or '91, I saw them open for Metallica. I liked The Cult better. They opened with this song, and the coliseum shook. Ian Astbury was whipping his 4-foot-long cold black hair around and belting this song out--it gave me goosebumps. | |
| The Cult – Fire Woman Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| The Cult have a unique way of being overly simplistic, but still rock. The lyrics are similar to a Jerry Lee Lewis song, or something from a time when music wasn't vulgar. I think this is cool and shows class. The music to this song kisks ass, and has just the right feel. | |
| Alice in Chains – What The Hell Have I Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
First of all, just let me say, that it will be hard to top steveo8488's profound understanding of this song, and his heartfelt interpretation of it...and shit. But seriously, I think it is important to point out that at the end of the song, the lyric posted above says, "What the hell have I? Little pride." I am almost certain that it really says, "What the hell have I, in my eye?" I think Layne is saying in a manly sort of way, that he is shedding a tear for the woman. Thus, lending credence to the whole, "about a relationship"-theory. |

| The White Stripes – You've Got Her In Your Pocket Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
This song is about insecurity. It is not sinister, as some people have noted. It is sad. "No body ever told you that is was the wrong way". indicates the guy in the relationship has, maybe had a disfunctional upbringing. He loves the girl so much, and has an unhealthly way of dealing with his feelings. Inevitably, someday she will leave him because of the way way he tries to contain her. The very thing that he wants to prevent, will happen but will be caused by the method that he is using to prevent it. A viscious circle. "And in your own mind, you know your lucky just to know her"--beautiful lyric; brings a tear to my eye. A way of humbling the guy. Deep inside, he knows that he should not be acting this way, but his insecurity overpowers him; almost makes him ill. Anyone who has ever felt insecure in a relationship can relate to this song. |

| Lamb of God – Remorse Is for the Dead Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I think this song is about a father who is abusive and irresponsible with his family--to excess. The opening seems to illustrate the father, either reflecting on his past life--like, he is either dead now, or an ebeniezer scrooge thing, where someone is showing him what he is in store for. Or, maybe the family was taken from him. It seems that the crux of the song is how the father is shameless, and the title of the song could be the father's mantra (whether he knows it or not). "...Your beatings will continue, until my morale improves...", is a rather graphic way of expaining why people are abusive. "...Just enough to make it work, never enough to keep it together..." I think this may be trying to illustrate that the father was somewhat functional in everyday life. Like, he appeared normal, and possibly, the famiily may have appeared normal, but "behind closed doors", nothing of the kind. Some of the lyrics about 3/4 through (starting with, "...Surroundings are irate..." may be describing the children of this wicked man, and how they are going to respond (grown up) to his upbringing of abuse. To say that this song is about war, is perhaps not giving LOG enough credit. These guys are very talented musicians. I like all of their stuff. I like how this pulls-off the old, "start-off slow, then come out swingin'" routine, at the beginning. |
