It's having a fight with your best friend but 'still talking'. I think. I've listened to the first line a million times this week. He still talks to me, barely. He's there, but it's not what we were. I don't think he actually cares either. He doesn't think of me. But unlike in Pyke's song, he doesn't even think of me when I'm near him, at least he doesn't want to. This so is too close to home. I want to be back in his favour.

I always thought he said 'mascarpone' when he actually says the 'the mask I polish'. hehe, I love singing the wrong lyrics, but hate the pompus people who kill your fun by shutting your happiness down with 'you know it's ACTUALLY...' get stuffed I say...lalala

I think the final repetition is "I don't pay enough attention to the good things when I got 'em", really symbolic of his reminiscing. A gorgeous song.
