Bad Books – Baby Shoes Lyrics 15 years ago
From Andy Hull during a studio session with 104.5, a Philadelphia radio station: "It's a fictitious story (...) if it was me, say I'm the character. I have a kid and the kid dies and then I give the kid to Satan and Satan brings it back to life. But it's an apocalyptic baby so it tries to kill me and so I try and kill it and that lands me in prison and her out on the loose."

Thought that was pretty interesting...this is my favorite song on the album.

It is a travesty that this band will be no more after November 4th...this is one of the best songs ever.

Barenaked Ladies – Adrift Lyrics 19 years ago
This one was discussed on barenaked.net's board and it has much more clever meaning that I had thought...

Here's my take:
Obviously a song about losing someone...
"The onion rings, the phone makes me cry"
The onion is ringing instead of making him cry. The phone makes him cry now because it's not ringing.

"The water falls, the fire flies"
He is crying still, as the fire of their relationship flies.

"You're an abacus and my heart was counting on us"
Amazing line, doesn't need much interpretation.

"The birches bark, the williows weep
But I lie awake; I'm adrift without a snowflake"
I think he is saying something in him really wants the dead relationship to work, but he knows it can't. Adrift, and a drift with the snowflake, a clever BNLey pun.

Awesome song about trying to keep your head up when you're sad. Great song, wonderful way to kick off the new album.

Angels and Airwaves – It Hurts Lyrics 19 years ago
I think "every little kiss and brand new ?game?" might be "every little kiss and grin you gave"

this sounds like it will be a really great song. I can't wait to hear it in full, along with the rest!!
