its about cocaine, tongue in cheek. you snort cocaine with a key, but he's making a beautiful analogy about it |

| Tom Waits – Anywhere I Lay My Head Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| its about a man down on his luck, a hobo that has nothing but owns everything | |
| Neil Young – Cortez The Killer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Great song, interesting fact about Hernan Cortes (it is spelled with an S) he was such an psycho that when he feared mutiny in the midst of colonial war he burned his own ships (or sank them, its still not clear) so his men would have no way of deserting him. He reminds me of the character Kurtz from Heart of Darkness (or colonel Kurtz from Apocalypse Now, an adaptation from the book) | |
| Television – Prove It Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| of course the lyrics could have different readings and interpretations, but i read somewhere this particular one was based on "The Long Goodbye" a detective story by Raymond Chandler. | |
| The Velvet Underground – Candy Says Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think its about beginning to come to terms with his/her sexuality and character. what do yo think he means with the reference to the bluebirds? He's probably making reference to the bluebird of happiness or the bluebird as a symbol of renewal and happiness. |

this line is really witty A lot of people don't have much food on their table, But they got a lot of forks 'n' knives, And they gotta cut somethin'. |
| Bob Dylan – When the Ship Comes In Lyrics | 18 years ago |
it is about social change, the upsetting experience at the hotel was just a trigger. Sort of reminds me to the song "we shall overcome". |

| Neutral Milk Hotel – Two-Headed Boy Pt. 2 Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think the song like most of the record has to do with Anne Frank. The two headed boy i think refers to two kids named Peter that she liked. In some parts he speaks as Anne, in others as Peter. The secret songs he refers is her diary. "Secret songs that you keep wrapped in boxes so tight" Then he talks as Peter, when he goes back to the reference of the little girl with roses in her eyes used in the first song. "In my dreams you're alive and you're crying As your mouth moves in mine, soft and sweet Rings of flowers around your eyes and I'll love you" Peter Van Peels was killed at a death march, probably shot in the head (no one knows for sure). "And you left with your head filled with flames And you watched as your brains Fell out through your teeth" |

| Daniel Johnston – Grievances Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this is the quintessential Dan Johnston song, i could hear it a million times and never get bored | |
| Yo La Tengo – Little Honda Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| great cover, sounds a little bit like The Jesus and Mary Chain doesnt it? | |
| Daniel Johnston – Dream Scream Lyrics | 18 years ago |
super sad song i dont think this one is about Laurie, but about the other girl Kathie, that was in that band Glass Eye. She and Daneil were sort of a couple one summer and then she dumped him cause he was starting to get really ill. he gave her his demo and she listened to it and invited him to open for Glass Eye i took it wrong you like my song and then she says she spend the entire summer reminding him that the were not a couple anymore and on the phone you said you never knew me at all thought there was love what a fool i was |

| The Jesus and Mary Chain – Happy When It Rains Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| doesnt matter if the relation is complicated, shes worth it | |
| Yo La Tengo – Deeper Into Movies Lyrics | 18 years ago |
its one of my favorite songs ever, when i think about it the word "epic" comes to mind. It has a cinematic feel to it that i kinda connect with the cover of "and then nothing turned itself inside out" and in some ways to David Bowie's "Starman". Makes me think about being a kid and reading sci-fi comics and the kind of "magical" idea that there's other things out there. By the way, Eleanor Bron is famous for her role in the movie "Help!" (The beatles) |

| Daniel Johnston – Living Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i too, heard eels' cover first and i always thought "Hold me like a mother would Like I always knew somebody should " is such an amazing line to start a song, a lot of people puts Daniel down because of that "tortured genius" thing he has. I think this song is a moment of true genius, nevermind the hype |
| Daniel Johnston – True Love Will Find You In The End Lyrics | 19 years ago |
first time i heard it i thought it was a cool-naive song but far from my favorite from daniel, but after a couple of listens and reading the lyrics i just couldnt get it out of my head. Daniel is a good heart |
| Bob Dylan – My Back Pages Lyrics | 19 years ago |
i think i agree with all of you, especially SpineofaJellyFish, great lyrics, great imagery. He's always had a problem with people calling him "the voice of a generation", hes just being humble and sort of saying is "all i know is that i dont know" I think it would be great if we analize each verse. Its full of strong images , probably one of the best lyrics he wrote. Really existencial. |
| The Pogues – Waxie's Dargle Lyrics | 20 years ago |
its two guys talking about their wives, we get the image of two married ladies out for a night on the town in one of Dublin's wilder neighborhoods, getting drinks from men not their husbands. i think the way they imitate the women's voices en the chorus makes the song extra-funny |
| The Pogues – Sally MacLennane Lyrics | 20 years ago |
yeah, its about death, but i dont think its that sad. i mean, even when they're gone you have this feeling you're not saying goodbye forever. "And we sang him a song of times long gone Though we knew that we'd be seeing him again" |
| Bob Dylan – Subterranean Homesick Blues Lyrics | 20 years ago |
its just beat poetry, specifically a literary technique called stream of consciousness, used by Kerouac, Dostoevsky, James Joyce, etc. Sort of a interior monologue, a spontaneous prose. "first thought=best thought" |
| Bob Dylan – It Ain't Me Babe Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| well i read on an interview that this song is dedicated to dylan's fans, and one you think about it its pretty obvious. The girl coming to his window, the "anyway i'm not alone", "im not the one you want"...Bob's got a really strange and ambiguos relation with his fans. Just look at Dont Look Back... | |
