Dave Matthews Band – The Maker Lyrics 18 years ago
I have a really good version of this song where dave is playing it alone on an acoustic guitar in what sounds like a small club. Totally badass.

Dave Matthews Band – Don't Drink the Water Lyrics 18 years ago
This song always makes me think about Palestine and Israel.
"All I can say, to you my new neighbor is you must move on, or I will bury you."
The Israeli's drove out all the Palestinians, under threat of death. They were then not allowed back into the city to collect any of their belongings. Which became the property of the nation of Israel.
"Now as I rest my feet by this fire
Those hands once warmed here
I have retired them
I can breathe my own air
I can sleep more soundly
Upon these poor souls"

anyone else think the same thing?

Moby – Extreme Ways Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this song is about life. The first entry in the dictionary for extreme is :"of a character or kind farthest removed from the ordinary or average: extreme measures."
I think this song is about being bored with life, and I think moby pegged the entire human race with this song, because even the perfect life; after a while would become stale and boring.

So the song describes someone breaking out from the mundaneness of life.

Extreme ways are back again
Extreme places I didn't know
I broke everything new again
Everything that I'd owned
I threw it out the windows, came along
Extreme ways I know, will part
The colors of my sea
Perfect color me

And yet even after he does this, it falls apart and becomes the normal again. "like it always does"

and so he, I'm not sure if reinventing is the right word, but I'm going to use it anyways, he reinvents himself anew.

Extreme songs have told me
They held me down every night
I didn't have much to say
I didn't give up the light
I closed my eyes and closed myself
And closed my world and never opened
Up to anything
That could get me at all

I had to close down everything
I had to close down my mind
Too many things to cover me
Too much can make me blind
I've seen so much in so many places
So many heartaches, so many faces
So many dirty things
You couldn't even believe

I think this part of the song is about detaching yourself from life, because you were hurt emotionally, or because you find yourself disgusted with life.

and yet he reminds us that

I would stand in line for this
It's always good in life for this

I dunno, this is a tough song to figure out, I'm not sure whether he's being sarcastic in the above lyrics.

The Verve – The Drugs Don't Work Lyrics 19 years ago
Believe it or not, this is actually the saddest song ever written.

"THE Drugs Don't Work by The Verve tops a list of songs which make us sad, according to a scientist."

Dave Matthews Band – Grey Street Lyrics 19 years ago
My Favorite Version is Live at the Gorge.
I don't see the lyrics for that version anywhere, So here they are.

Oh, look at how she listens..
but she's saying nothing of what she thinks..
She just goes stumbling through her memories..
Staring out onto Grey Street.

She thinks HEY..
How did I come to this?
I dreamed myself a million times around the world..
but I can't get out of this place..

And there's a loneliness inside her..
and she'd do anything to fill it in..
but all the colors.. mix together; TO GREY!
And It Breaks Her Heart!

And though she wishes it was different..
she prays to god most every night..
And she knows well he doesn't listen..
but there's still a hope in her he might..

And She Says I Pray!
But My Prayers All Fall On Deaf Ears!
Am I Supposed To Take It On Myself?!
To Get Out Of This Place!?

And There's An Emptiness Inside Her..
And She'd Do Anything To Fill It In..
And Though It's Red Blood Bleeding From Her Now..
Felt Like Cold Blue Ice In Her Heart..

When All The Colors... Mix Together..
TO GREY!
...It Breaks Her Heart!!

there go the voices from outside the door..
they say take what you can from your dreams..
and make them as real as anything..
oh it'll take all the work out of the courage..

She Says Please!!
There's A Crazy Man Is Creeping Outside My Door!
I Live On The Corner Of Grey Street!
And The End Of The World!

Now There's An Emptiness Inside Her..
And She'd Do Anything To Fill It In..
And Though It's Red Blood Bleeding From Her Now..
Felt Like Cold Blue Ice In Her Heart..
She Feels Like Kicking Out All The Windows..
And Setting Fire To This Life!!
She Could Change Every..
Thing About Her..
Using Colors....BOLD AND BRIGHT!!
But All The Colors...Mix Together..
TO GREY!!!

It Breaks Her Heart!
It Breaks Her Heart!
It Breaks......
YEAH!!!.......

The 5 Disk Live at The Gorge is definitely worth picking up, I think this is my favorite version of Grey Street, and I have every cd they've put out.
