Tennessee Ernie Ford – Sixteen Tons Lyrics 12 years ago
Considering this is from the workers perspective, sounds like its talking about the big wigs.

Led Zeppelin – Kashmir Lyrics 12 years ago
I'm always coming back here to find that diamond in the rough who can go a little beyond what most people guess, and I've been pleasantly surprised. And after looking for a better interpretation on Kashmir for a project of mine, I came upon initially mehran1546's "general comment" and I thought it was probably the closest interpretation I'd seen. By that point, I usually look at songfacts as well as Wikipedia and sometimes sing365. After coming up to his, I felt content and let it go. And then I come back looking for that and also back to Wikipedia's page for Kashmir and I take note of where Robert Plant states, "But 'Kashmir' in particular. It was so positive, lyrically." Plant also commented on the challenges he faced in writing lyrics for such a complex piece of music: "It was an amazing piece of music to write to, and an incredible challenge for me ... Because of the time signature, the whole deal of the song is… not grandiose, but powerful: it required some kind of epithet, or abstract lyrical setting about the whole idea of life being an adventure and being a series of illuminated moments. But everything is not what you see. It was quite a task, ’cause I couldn’t sing it. It was like the song was bigger than me. It’s true: I was petrified, it’s true. It was painful; I was virtually in tears." In an interview he gave to William S. Burroughs in 1975, Page mentioned that at the time the song was composed, none of the band members had ever been to Kashmir.
And yet, I noted how he stated about it being positive AND yet bigger then him. So while looking around the web first and then coming back to Wikipedia, to that page again(or rather almost) as I was putting Kashmir into the search on Wiki, multiple options including "Kashmir Shaivism" came up and right as I click for the song again, I went back and went to that page, for Kashmir Shaivism(check out the page if you will). Blew my mind. So although Plant could have been talking about Kashmir the place or even a psychedelic trip, I think he was referring to Kashmir Shaivism as, although not in the same time frame, George Harrison was very much connected to the Mid-East philosophies the previous decade and current. Just wanted to share.

I'm convinced that it isn't Layne. Well, either a very young Layne or someone who thinks he sounds like Layne..

Jerry knew deep down that Alice was going to be no more, just that he didn't know when.

Alice in Chains – Nothin' Song Lyrics 20 years ago
It's about all that and if you really look at the lyrics, it's also showing that he could write great lyrics, which Layne knew for a while now.

Alice in Chains – No Excuses Lyrics 20 years ago
It's Jerry being well aware of what Staley was doing, and he knew he couldn't help, and it's way of backing him up no matter what because Jerry accepted him like his own brother.

Alice in Chains – Love Song Lyrics 20 years ago
In vein of how they recorded JoF, they probably considered the arrangement beforehand, choose it and decided to record whatever come out on the first take. It's definitely..weird...but If you keep in mind the humor of these guys, it fits.

Alice in Chains – The Killer Is Me Lyrics 20 years ago
The song I think is Jerry's opinion on everything in his life, with Courtney, Layne etc.

Alice in Chains – I Stay Away Lyrics 20 years ago
I interpret it that Layne and Demri's relationship was pretty close to imploding and Layne needed to be away for quite some time. But at the end, when Layne really wails, it's just ...great shit man.

It's been rumored that Layne was into drugs for a long time before AiC got going.

The full on addiction of the drugs for him, which is why he gives the feeling of being out of it for the whole song.

Alice in Chains – Grind Lyrics 20 years ago
Well, Jerry mentions in the liner notes from the Music Bank that Grind is his way of saying fuck you to the media for all of their bogus stories, without going to their level.

Alice in Chains – God Am Lyrics 20 years ago
It's still about GOD, but I found it funny that Jerry Cantrell would reference the "Faith from fable" part in his own solo stuff.

Alice in Chains – Get Born Again Lyrics 20 years ago
Actually, if you listen to one of the interviews that they did, Layne says, though avoiding specifics, that the song is about religion.
