The Mamas & the Papas – I Saw Her Again Lyrics 18 years ago
Btw, the part near the end of the song when Denny comes in too early with "I Saw Her" was a mistake! But it worked so well they left it in. John Lennon was amazed and could not believe it wasn't planned.

Elvis Presley – Kentucky Rain Lyrics 18 years ago
What a terrific song, written by Eddie Rabbit. This song was one of Elvis' last hits (along with In the Ghetto, Suspicious Minds and Burning Love) - it is not an easy song at all to sing, and Elvis just does a phenomenal job with it.

Marty Robbins – El Paso Lyrics 18 years ago
This was my favorite song growing up - Marty was the best ever at putting a western song to music - truly brought the Western to Country and Western - BTW, I heard that Marty Robbins wrote this song in less then 20 minutes - almost as fast as he could think it, the words and music came to him!

Kansas – Dust In The Wind Lyrics 19 years ago
Kerry Livgren, who wrote the song, talked about "Dust on the Wind" a few years ago. He talked about being involved in something called "The Urantia Book", a series of papers that claim to be a revelation about Supernatural beings (The Monolith album was heavily influenced by these beliefs).
Livgren started converting to Christianity, and eventually left Kansas because of the difference in philosophy.
Livgren said that Dust In the Wind reflected his pessimism at that time - life was precious, but there was nothing after death. He does acknowledge that the song is beautifully written and well constructed, but it is so bleak that he regrets writing it.
It is a great rock and roll classic - but it is also a message of hopelessness - and Livgren has long moved past that message.

Oleta Adams – Waters Of March Lyrics 19 years ago
This song was voted the All-time greatest Brazillian song by over 200 Brazilian journalists, musicians and artists back in 2001 - Antonio Carlos Jobim wrote the music, along with both the English and Portugese lyrics for the song.
Waters of March isn't a traditional song, but a series of image that sort of form a collage. Everything goes back to the Waters of March (or Spring waters) - it could be said the Waters of March are a metaphor for the passing of life and the natural, daily progression towards death.
One critic pointed out that the music constantly progresses downward, like the spring waters flowing downward from the mountains to the sea when the ice melts.
According to Oscar Castro-Neves, Jobim told him he wrote this stream of consciouness as his version of therapy - it saved him thousands of dollars in psycho analysis.
The difference between the Portugese and English versions - there are actually more lyrics in English. In Portugese every lyric begins with E.. in English Its. Jobim avoided writing any words with Latin roots in the English version.

The Beatles – You Never Give Me Your Money Lyrics 20 years ago
I have also heard that some of the lyrics vaguely refer to the Apple Boutique and what a financial disaster it became. Apparently the Beatles realized that a lot of the people they were giving money to were just lazy and sponges... "oh that Magic feeling" may also refer to Magic Alex, who was the engineer and inventor at Apple. As for the line "pack up the bags and get in the limosine", there is a story that when the Beatles decided to shut down the boutique, their wives came in a limo, grabbed everything they wanted it and loaded the stuff into shopping bags, then drove away in the limo. The song probably does have more then one meaning.

The Beatles – Revolution 9 Lyrics 20 years ago
According to a guide on one of the Beatles Walking tours in London, Number 9 was supposedly a reference to the extremely high tax rate that the British had on the wealthy (something like for every 10 dollars 9 went to the taxman). The gal was a roommate of Cynthia Lennon, so I gather she knew all four Beatles.
Whether or not this is true, there is no doubt that all of the Beatles Hated the tax man
