Some of you look far too deeply into songs... seriously. Paedophiles? Drugs? Serial Killers? Each to their own, but you're wrong. This song is simply about wanting something you can't have, and the responding emotions. He knows she wants him, he's on fire with emotion towards wanting her. Circumstances the way they mean they will never be together though, which he realises when he decides to drop off her keys rather than ring the door bell. His smirk as he drops off the keys supports this (music video). Often the 'chase' or living in the position of wanting and knowing it's possible without having is more exciting. Obviously this is why people cheat I suppose. |

This obviously about a guy who's been in a long term relationship his partner just ended. "Hard as a rock, you have made your heart And you're so sure that its me to blame How can you lose when you hold all the cards But who can win at a losers game You told me that I had to live without you Hey loneliness is no stranger to my life And I know you'll get by" She's become cold and uncompassionate in a stale relationship. He's seemingly content with the way things were and surprised at her ending the it. He's been single before for substantial periods of his life. "I'm wide awake but I feel no pain Lying alone in this bed of thorns Headlights scream across these walls likes flames Is this the calm just before the storm I thought that I could never live without you Funny how things change when life says jump You're not the only one" Now that reality has set in, he's lying alone with time to reflect. He's feeling numb and surprised at absence of hurt. Surely pain is on the way? It doesn't seem so, and he realises that he's also going to be better off without her. Life told him to 'jump' but he didn't before. His feelings has put himself in her shoes. "I thought that I was headed for a broken heart But a heart can fall so far and not apart I'm lying in the dark" Stating that he was scared of what he thought would happen to his feelings when realisation of the separation hit him. To his surprise he realises that his heart, while hurt, will live on without scar. The fact that he's "lying in the dark" emphasises the point. He's alone and in complete reflection. |
