Grandaddy – Miner At The Dial-A-View Lyrics 16 years ago
One small thing I just noticed: the sighs that benfolds fan mentioned get lower in the mix each time they arrive, as if they're fading away...

Stereophonics – Superman Lyrics 18 years ago
All mouth and no trousers basically. "Superman" here seems to be someone who claims to be able to fly but still takes an aeroplane.

By the by, it reminds me of reading about a little exchange between Mohammed Ali and an Air Hostess when she told him to put his seatbelt on for takeoff.

"Superman don't need no seatbelt."
"Superman don't need no aeroplane, either."

I have to admit, I thought it was about date rape.

Modest Mouse – Truckers Atlas Lyrics 19 years ago
I love the 'How far does your road go?' line. It sounded to me like he's challenging the listener to listen to all 10+ mins. of the song. May not have been intentional, but hey.

Pixies – Monkey Gone to Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
One more thing. I just looked at the 'Hey' lyrics, and one line reads thusly:

'Hey, must be a devil between us'

So is man (5) trying to get through to God (7), but can't because the Devil (6) seperates them? Maybe the 'hole in the sky' IS the Devil, i.e. The sky separates man and God, and there is 'a Devil between us'. See what I'm saying?

Pixies – Monkey Gone to Heaven Lyrics 19 years ago
'he is more responsible for pain, suffering and destruction than man and devil put together'
6+7=13
5+6=11
Track 11 = No. 13 Baby
Hence, 13=11
So, if Devil and man join forces they can equal the power of God and the Devil put together?
Hence, Man=God.
Er...maybe not.

Anyway, am I the only one to notice that the theory of evolution (man coming from monkeys) and the religious view of creation are in conflict? So the monkey going to heaven could symbolise the two theories being united.

OR, to take another viewpoint, the monkey going to heaven could mean that the evolution theory has been disproved (killed) by the Second Coming and man has been sent to hell for embracing the evolution theory. Just thoughts.

Mercury Rev – Opus 40 Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, I'm probably way off here, but I always saw this song as being about a girl who tries to kill herself, again and again, but never dies, perhaps because she has yet to fulfill her purpose?

Lines like 'woke up and climbed from the suicide machine', 'scratching her wrists', and 'collapses down...' all imply suicide. She is desperate to end it, but she can't.

'"I'm alive!" she cried, "But I don't know what it means."'

All her attempts are futile, and she is wondering why.

R.E.M. – I'll Take The Rain Lyrics 19 years ago
Okay, I think this is about someone who metaphorically takes refuge from the rain in a relationship with a girl, but the relationship is so painful that he would rather leave her and 'take the rain'.

Supergrass – Tales Of Endurance (Parts 4, 5 & 6) Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this is sort of a reply to people who say that Supergrass were better before they 'matured'...

'We welcome commercial suicide
Kiss the love you leave behind
And let it bother you'

I.e. their fans should say goodbye to the young, wide-eyed Supergrass.

'I might've known that you'd be tearing up the photographs'

Of the band...fans jumping off the bandwagon at the less youthful sound.
