i love this song. out of all the songs on "Illinois", i can relate to this one the most. *the praying over someone, and nothing happening *complicating a situation by kissing someone on the mouth *loving someone who is somehow severely sick this song is absolutely brilliant. [ty] |

i've always thought of the first part of the song as a real account that wayne had. he wakes up, to find that he's got a head wound, and he cant remember a thing about it. the middle of the song is almost like him telling people about it, and about how you can find ignorance in bliss about not knowing what happens to you. the last part of the song (again, just my opinion) is him telling the listener how this crazy accident became a trend. people start walking around, fake blook dripping from their heads, having fake freak-outs about it and thinking its so cool. but they're "holding on to something that they never had. And that's too bad... Cause in reality there was no reaction." its almost as if saying, "be careful what things you decide to tell people about: it might end up becoming something ridiculous and larger than you can handle." ...eh, thats just how i interpreted it [ty] |

i dont know if anyone else typed this already (i didnt go through and read them all) but this song has always reminded me of the Apocolypse. Wake from your sleep The drying of your tears, today we escape, we escape (Satan rallying up his demons, as if saying "dont worry. this suffering will all be over soon") Pack and get dressed, before your father hears us, before, all hell breaks loose ("quick, act now, before God finds the chance to stop us before we start") Breathe, keep breathing, don't lose your nerve, breathe, keep breathing I can't do this alone (Satan trying to keep them from backing out) Sing us a song, a song to keep us warm, there's such a chill, such a chill (possibly the demons seeking vain comfort from Satan) You can laugh a spineless laugh We hope your rules and wisdom choke you now we are one in everlasting peace (the Heavens casting the dark army into Hell one final time) We hope that you choke, that you choke We hope that you choke, that you choke We hope that you choke, that you choke (all the betrayed demons, repeating what the angels told Satan as they get casted down alongside him) ...i've actually never seen Romeo+Juliet (the recent one), so i didnt know that it was on the soundtrack. now that i look at the lyrics, it very well could be like some sort of warning to them both. anyway, this is a great, creepy, melancholy song. i kind of agree with NQArbuckle i've always thought it was about being yourself, no matter what the consequences "It was sweet like lead paint is sweet but the after-effects left me paralyzed" --- he tried going with the flow for a while, but soon realized that he couldnt be himself if he conformed [ty] |
