Well, like every song and most listeners, its about me. Ha. For me tonight, its about my boyfriend who is bipolar. I feel pretty good as usual. Unfortunately, he is in a depression right now and there is nothing I can do. I have to wait for him to say he is ok. I can see the link to addiction too, as it is so closely related to mental illness. Its his problem, not mine, but it is really a problem sometimes. I have no way to understand what he is feeling, so in relation, I'm a fool. Every day that I go without hearing from him, my confusion grows. Anyway, there isn't much I can do except pray when I see his depression setting in.

And it is the depth and sorrow of understanding the way people can connect intensely and then in a matter of time realize how we all change. It is the wavering between the state of remembering the closeness, longing for it, and then old resentment as well the distance that grows so shockingly quick.

It sounds like she left him to live wild and fast. She keeps hanging out when she misses him. He's glad, but keeps reminding her about the danger of that lifestyle. She gets hurt and he welcomes her back. Her innocense is gone=bleeding like a lamb

I think that is a fair interpretation, however, I think it could also be about forbidden love, an affair, not just old lovers. It's clear that they are old lovers with a history. Burning bridges, makes me guess that she is married. Finding myself in a similare situation in my life, I find the line "We make a little history, baby/Every time you come around" especially beautiful. Inside of a relationship that can have no future, I found myself telling my lover that I will remember him when I am an old woman. Sometimes life is complicated, like a good song.
