Everyone blames George W. Bush for everything... Not that I think he's innocent, but remember that we're all responsible for setting up the world like this. |

While the Happyfolk didn't directly do anything wrong, they have to suffer the punishment that the actions of the Strangefolk brought. The moral of this song is that although we may not do anything directly wrong, we still have to be watchful of wickedness around us, and it is our responsibility to stop it before we have to suffer for its actions. Based on 2-D's message at the end, I think this interpretation is correct. This song is a warning to the people of America; saying that although individually we are not evil, we have let evil take place without really doing anything about it. While I don't necessarily agree with his statement, it is what is being told in the song. |

I think this song is the "conclusion" (or so to speak) to the main track on the album 'Feel Good Inc.', and the track that the reflects the entire point of the album. As reflected in the video for Feel Good, the album in general is about people who are basically good and their struggle to find the path to light through all the darkness and evil. I mentioned Feel Good earlier because the message it portrays sets it self up for the track 'demon days'. As seen in the video, 2D is stuck in a dark place surrounded by sin and wickedness, and the closest thing to light he has is a glimpse of Noodle in the sun playing her guitar. I think that while 'Feel Good Inc.' shows us that we can observe light while in darkness, 'Demon Days' reminds us that the light can be ours if are able to persevere. However, dire consequences await those who blindly follow darkness without hoping to escape to the light, as suggested in "Fire coming out of the monkey's head". Another very interesting thing I noticed about the song is that the lyrics tell us to not burn ourselves by turning TOWARDS the sun. Common sense would tell us that turning towards the sun would just burn us even more. I think that the word "Sun" in the song has a double meaning. I think it means "sun" in the sense that it's the greatest source of light as opposed to darkness, but at the same time it may also mean "Son" as a reference to Christ, who is the opposite of a demon. |
