I think there is a deeper meaning in this song.. Everybody knows who Ian Curtis end up when he became famous.. I think the Wombats are singing here about that fame can be killing 'let's raise our glass to the ceiling'.. it's bitter |

Is it maybe about a person locked up in himself.. The lyric looks if it is written by a person with psycholic disaster.. some split-personality maybe |

It's indeed extremely clear it's about a girl who is forgot to take her meds.. And because she's forgotten, she have done things she didn't want to do: The sex, the drugs and the complications.. maybe you can see the girl is not a long time ago dismissed from a clinic for psychotists |

I agree with the meaning of a broken relation and that the person Brian is singing about can't let go his/her lover.. It think you can see it in the chorus after the line of: Your eyes are forever glued to mine.. so when the lover will go away his eyes will leave him.. Please don't drive me blind.. maybe it's also a line to commit suicide.. when the person is blind he/she don't know what he's doing.. It's a guess.. But one thing I sure about.. It's the greatest song |

It one of the best songs of Meds.. The first time I heard it I didn't knew what to think.. It's so experimental, but when I listen to it again I know this is one of the beautiful rhymes and melody's Placebo ever made.. Hope they will come back soon to the Netherlands |

| Placebo – Broken Promise Lyrics

I read a interview, in a dutch music magazine with Steve Hewitt about the duet broken promise with Michael Stipe (R.E.M.): 'The song he were singing on was finished for over a year. Michael stayed in the same hotel in Paris as us. We had finished the song a second ago. It was wrote as a duet, but I knew that when Brian it will sing with a woman it never will be work. Ik saw Michael - we know each other from the movie Velvet Goldmine - and I get the best idea ever: two gaypeople that sing about adultery, that would be so brilliant! I was even hearing it in my head.'
By the way.. I like this song! |
