| This is probably their most angst-filled and depressing song, but I love it :D I think it's about concealing feelings for someone, whether that be an ex or a friend; she desperately loves this person and can't move on- she's stuck in limbo with these feelings. It kind of seems like she's talking to herself, telling herself to stop being so hard on herself, stop feeling sorry for herself or lonely. The sexuality theory is pretty intriguing too... | |

I've always thought this song is about unrequited love. 'run around on me I'd sooner die without run around on me die without' I think this means that even though the girl treats her badly ('runs around' on her), she'd 'sooner die' than go without her, or at least go without having this person in her life however painful it might be for her feelings to not be reciprocated. 'relentless, yes, it's true my motor mouth runs over you' She's crazy about this girl and talks about her endlessly. There's this mess of emotions going on, the love for this person but also the bitterness towards them. 'no hissy fits, mind my manners won't make a scene oh, over you' Her fear of losing this girl means she'd rather just bite her tongue and conceal her feelings than risk compromising their existing relationship. Or maybe she's angry at the girl being insensitive/ignorant towards her feelings, but again she'd rather not 'make a scene'. Maybe there's a third girl in the picture and it's a love triangle? Whatever the case, it's is definitely about feeling bitter and heartbroken. This relationship is all about pure drama and over-exaggerated, perhaps even histrionic emotions (hence 'alligator' tears). The cheating explanation would make sense too, but I related this song to my own experience of unrequited love- the frustration of trying to convey your feelings but also constantly hold them back, and hold back your hurt/anger when the person takes them for granted in some way. |
