| Gillian Welch – Revelator Lyrics | 11 years ago |

The entire song take the form of the singer revealing to us how she feels about herself and her mental and emotional state. The first verse: The singer reveals and warns us that she is untrustworthy but whether this statement is true will only be revealed in time. Hence "time's the revelator". The second verse: The singer reveals that she is on her own and a fortune teller predicts her future. But the predictions turn out false thus every word dates the fortune teller as time reveals and disproves her predictions. The third verse: In this verse the singer is tired of her current situation. Days getting straighter hints at a lose of adventure, discovery, and a fulfillment. The forth verse: The singer escapes, or dreams of escaping, Corning and returns to California where life will be better. She then calls herself the Queen of Fakes and Imitators, which she told us in the first verse. Time will reveal all. Definitions: The "Katy" refers to the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad. "She Caught the Katy (And Left Me a Mule To Ride)" is a blues song. Revelator is one who revels. Corning is a town in New York. Cali is short for California. |

| Badly Drawn Boy – You Were Right Lyrics | 13 years ago |

I first heard this song in late 2002 on satellite radio. The meaning: The first verse is the only one that starts with “You” meaning his former lover. The first verse and open line are his confessions of guilt. He questions his, and our, perspective by asking “do the colors of the rainbow look the same to everyone?” He admits that the relationship and he lacked a destination. “You could follow me for weeks…“ He then states that he now realizes the value the relationship had, but can only realize it in retrospect. “Sometimes….” His dream refers to his realization that he would rather have a real relationship with a worthy woman “Married to the Queen” instead of a fantasy that could never be real. “Madonna; took a shine to me” He sings of the deaths of other singers. This illustrates death, the passage of time and, most importantly, his maturation. He realizes that he did not invest enough in his relationship because he was distracted by other things “Busy finding answers”. He realizes that he did care enough about this other person to have considered marriage. He also realizes that he allowed life to overwhelm him and never did find the courage to change his situation. He realizes that he can only have this relationship in nostalgia and in a song…he uses his songs and music as a coping mechanism. He has learned and grown from this experience but he still whishes for the good thing he had with his old lover. |

The first verse describes how her life is missing all the elements of a fairy tale, a fantasy. The references are: “Wishing well”: Self explanatory “Mirror to show and tell”: “Mirror Mirror on the Wall” “Kiss to break the spell”: Sleeping Beauty The second verse speculates that all romantic interests are fantasies (the idea that a Prince will come to our rescue), and that in reality she is the witch(the antagonist in the story). The Chorus seems to be an allusion to the fact that we move through life aimlessly and without meaning. The 3rd verse refers to the Cinderella fantasy and that it never comes true and that we always expect it to and are disappointed when it does not. There is no one to blame but ourselves for believing in this fantasy. The 4th verse implies that everyone is waiting for someone, something to fulfill or complete them. The 2nd Chorus carries the same meaning as the first. The final bridge/climax of the singer suggests that it’s better to pretend that there is meaning in our actions than to recognize and live with the fact that nothing matters. The singer clearly recognizes their position but consents to continue the illusion for the sake of their own fantasies and delusions. |

| The city reminds him of a happier time with someone he loved and still loves. Within the city he sees things that reminds him of her and them, but he is not sad. | |

It's about the end of a relationship and she must say goodbye to a person she really could love. It seems that she knows that they just won't work out but she shoehow wishes they could. I disappear They tell you I’m not worth it, You’re wasting your time. They tell you, you give too much And that nothing remains They say the first one comes differently And the second one as you think I look out and know How often one gives themselves in vain If I could I would fly with you If I could I would love you And I know that everything in you screams because nothing of me stays I disappear You say I don’t give us a chance And I take it way too light I could puke because I know That all the time in the world wouldn’t matter You would still have more to give me, That which would heal us both We would be forever, Would be great Until the trifle. If I could I would fly with you If I could I would love you |

The song is about a happy time between two people. It's about one person holding on to a moment and the other moving on, saying "Yes I know it was a cool time, Nothing was to far for us, You are gone from here, Yeah i know it was a cool time, hey, I'm soory but its past" A summer love is the perfect example of this song. |
