Caramelprisoner, I agree with you and several others who have commented on the "overwhelmed as one would be" part of this song. Musically and lyrically, it grabs me every time. The futility in his voice when he sings that he forgot his pen... that is what it feels like to be tripping (on acid) and start to lose the perspective and insight you found during your trip- everyone does come down sometime, after all. It's a horrible feeling, and I think that's why that anguished, desperate part of this song touches me so. I was at the 5/13 Chicago show too. It was my birthday and my first Tool show ever. Hearing this song live, at the start of their set- I'll never forget it! OH YES, before I forget, here's the real lyric from that particular interlude: "Born to bear in writ to all the details of our ending" It's bear in writ to all, not bear and read to all. | Missy Elliott – Work It Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Mollena you cracked me up there. Add Steve Miller to the list of artists who make up words. And why would someone who thinks this song is awful be looking at the lyrics? Because it's catchy as hell, I love it and I'm no rap fan. This song is about girl power and being openly and happily sexed up. I feel you, Missy. Is it worth it? Let me work it. |

| Imogen Heap – Hide and Seek Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I hear 'trains and sewing machines' and anybody who's ever been around someone using a sewing machine knows it has a loud rhythmic hum like a train. I think that line is meant to describe a loud buzzing or roaring or maybe ringing in her ears. It's part of that "this isn't happening, this is surreal" feeling you get when someone you love is leaving you, whether it's a family member dying or your lover dumping you. This song is beautiful but so sad. And count me in among the people who've never watched the show this song was on. | |

Having loved this song repeatedly and thoroughly but never understood it, I was gratified to read about the murder meaning, as horrified as I was by the stories of those murdered women. Finally this song comes clear to me. However: "Callous heels, numbed in travel, endless maps made by the scalpels" has been a line that I sung throatily along with, feeling like it meant: I've got a lot of miles on me, and my heels are numbed and calloused because of this. Contact with others has left me traced with "maps" of lines carved by their "scalpels"- hands, words, bodies, actions. Learning about the women makes me think that the anguish in those verses is theirs, the callous heels are theirs, numbed with travel to the shitty jobs and wherever else they had to go in their lives, and the maps were carved by the bastards that hurt those women with God only knows what kind of weapons (scalpels). I hope this makes sense to somebody. Thanks for reading. |

| System of a Down – Sugar Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| BAH ha ha!! Mack I love the D and inward singing is hilarious but not what Serj is singing about. He means just what he says- he sits in his desolate room with no lights and no music, just anger. It's something that people do when they are mildly (or profoundly) disturbed. Anyway I love this song and my favorite part is "Every time I try to go where I really want to be it's already where I am... 'cause I'm already THEEERRRREE!" which is a great lesson for anyone who ever said "Man, I wish I could be (insert place here)" or "I wish I were with (insert person here)" because wherever you are, you're you, with the same mind, soul and problems. The great myth of unhappiness is if I could change my location, I could change my situation. Happiness comes from within. | |
| U2 – City of Blinding Lights Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I first heard this song in an episode of the HBO show "Entourage" where the group goes to a U2 concert. I have never been a big fan of the band but seeing that audience enraptured by this song and hearing the "oo-ooo-ooo" before the refrain really moved me- I had to have the cd and love this song even more than Vertigo, which rocks. At first hearing it reminded me of that crowd scene with the Entourage guys in the middle (who doesn't love a great concert?) but now I just love it for itself. Thank you to everyone who posted about the NYC 9/11 meaning. It means a lot to me to know the emotion behind the writing of such a great song. | |
