to me this song is about Dionysis (sp?) I thought Soft Parade might be some William Burroughs reference. I think he came up with Soft Machine. but all i know is back in 1969 if you said someone was on the Soft Parade it meant that they were an acid casualty. it was the worst dis you could get. |

this is one of the coolest songs ever. i have the original 45 with the picture sleeve- Jim Morrisons body is a brick wall. i used to blast it on my dads tube amp stereo back in the day. of course this song is all about the Vietnam war. it has special resonance today with the debacle in Iraq. i have heard that this was actually the Doors first single. does anyone know if that is true? |

| The Velvet Underground – I'm Waiting for the Man Lyrics

The $26 dollars refers to a deck of heroin which was 15 $2 bags. You got a discount if you knew the right person. Of course this was the late 60s so the prices have changed. I know a little about the Harlem scene in those days. The song gets it right. In no way do I recommend that lifestyle. Many of my friends from those days died young. |

I cant believe you dont like the accent SML. Its perfect. Nobody can attract you like a sexy blonde German woman who seems to spell danger. And when she uses that "Ice Queen" accent to get aloof and put you off--well you arent going to get anywhere. I met a woman like that about a year ago and Im still not over her. |

Its a great song but that line about big legged women having no soul always bothered me. I mean big legged women INVENTED soul. Aretha, Etta James, Koko Taylor, etc. |

this is a classic. Of course Pocahontas never had any romance with Captain Smith. She was 12 when the supposed incident took place, but she did marry an English guy later. Then she went to Europe where she caught pnumonia and died at 22. Peggys version is better I guess. |

| Procol Harum – Quite Rightly So Lyrics

this song, like the whole Shine on Brightly album, contains some of the most existential lyrics ever put on disc. it reminds me a lot of RD Laing who was big in those days. the lyric--tho nothing shows, someone knows--reminds me of Laings comment that experience never shows, that we are "invisible men" and i think that Keith Reid "knew" at one time or another. the problem with "knowing" is that a lot of the time it doesnt last--and you are left where you started |

beth 21 i think you got it right. this song has its origions on Chaucer. the Millers tale has a part where a guy goes to kiss his beloved--and at the same time she ummm, sticks her "daily duty" out the window. Whiter shade of pale somehow refers to this anatomical part i think. im not Chaucer scholar tho. |

to me this is a song about unrequited love. the guy is sitting there writing letters he knows hes not going to send, but his normal mind is gone because of the person hes thinking of. "Beauty ive always missed with these eyes before" he finally realizes what a woman can really mean |

the cool thing about this 12 inch 45(if you can get the origional) is that if you play it on 33 it sounds awesome. i always felt the song was too speeded up, but on 33 its a trip in itself and you can get into the guitar stuff a lot better. but beats the origional? no way--you have to watch the video from Magical Mystery Tour to see how out-there they were in those days--long live the 60s |

| John Lennon – Working Class Hero Lyrics

to me this song is about the Beatles. Even tho John wasnt strictly working class, being a pop star in the 60s was the way out for people in Liverpool. The simple chords and style of the song is so heartfelt, and I think Lennon is saying that even with being a star you are left wondering what its all about. Covered by Ozzie huh? what a card |

| The Moody Blues – I'm Just A Singer (In A Rock And Roll Band) Lyrics

I think you guys got it right. A lot of people did think that their lyrics were deep messages about the meaning of life etc. So they backtracked-- just like Dylan and the Beatles did. They said--whoa, hold on, we arent prophets. The Kinks did the same thing with Rock and Roll Fantasy, and the Stones with Its only RnR. |

A really cool song with typical trippy lyrics. We always used to think this song had something to do with amphetamines because of the line about "speeding"through the universe. |

| The Moody Blues – Legend Of A Mind Lyrics

Possibly, this could be the Moodys theme song. People who dont "get" the Moody Blues music dont realize that they were mostly making background music for LSD trips. At least they were in the late 60s to early 70s. I love the whole Search of the Lost Chord album, its got that "lost innocence of the 60s" feel, although the sound quality of the original LP wasnt too good. I havnt seen a remastered version, but I will look out for it. |

| Bruce Springsteen – My Hometown Lyrics

I saw Bruce do this song with a reggae band in the Green Parrot bar in Neptune NJ--84 I think. He was there totally unannounced and when I heard the PA guy go and "here's Bruce Springsteen" to about 100 people I was like---yeah right.. But i moved towards the stage, there he was. Wish I had a tape of those 5 songs he did then. Later he went to have a beer downstairs and nobody went within 50 feet of him. The old missed oppertunity. But it was cool of him to do that for the locals. |

| Steve Miller Band – Quicksilver Girl Lyrics

Its weird how there are no comments on Steves early songs. You all dont know what you are missing. This is an excellent song. So mello--you just drift away--a lot like Dear Mary. People only seem to like Steves pop stuff from the mid 70s. Its too bad because he kind of sold out his blues roots to become a star. |

Someone said this was Steves only good song? Right. To me, Steve did his best stuff on the first 3 albums. My personal theory of what pompatus means is---that in French, pomp a tu--means to pump you. Get it? Its a cajun slang for sex. |

I love the stones but I think this song was designed to appeal to chicks. As a guy I like the heavier stuff. But the main reason I think this song is lame--a throwaway is that they rhyme eyes with eyes. Come on. |

| The Sound – Winning Lyrics
|
|
To me the song is about the futility of trying to win the "social double bind game" by effort. As Paramahansa Yogananda said in Autobiography of a Yogi----Maya (ignorance) can never be destroyed through intellectual conviction or analysis. That said; the song kicks butt musically. The vocals are emotionally intense and it has a cool guitar passage. A perfect song--as good as anything by Joy Division or New Order |
