I really like this song, My brother and Brother in law are both in the army and I was gonna join but couldnt because of a medical problems, they have both been to Iraq and have watched friends die. No Soldier wants to goto war, but the army has a very appealing lifestyle for young men. I don't like the fact that people are ignorant, I respect that Rise Against are an american band but to talk that this song is only about American Soldiers just shows pure arrogance, next time you talk about it please stop to think that alot of other countries are losing sons,brothers,daughters,moms and fathers. I think growing up around the army myself and hearing stories about soliders shows that perhaps people should have some pride in the men and women who greatly defend their countries to protect our freedoms and liberties, Just because the war is unjust doesnt mean that we should condemn the people who are just doing thier jobs and risking their lives everyday so that we are safe and able to live our lives which is paid with blood of these fine people. To the song, its got alot of things in it but thats what makes it so special, I can agree with everyones idea's and thoughts but the last couple of lines got me thinking that perhaps the guy in the song has become a recruiter like the guy who recruited him at the beginning. and even though all that has happened he is still supporting his army and country. |

Keefer, you saved me all the time and energy :) Seriously though, it's another good album and for me this song stands out as a good one. I think this song is about being on tour and missing a love or family member. "the postcard says wish you were here but I’d rather I was there, holding on to the simple things before they disappear, that’s what I meant" even though the band is doing well, the simple things like hanging with family and just being home are something that they hold dear. the postcard threw me off but If your proud of where you are from and are away for so long, don't know about anyone else but i would like a postcard of my city to remind me. "echoes of songs still lurk on distant foreign shores, where we danced just to please the gods that only ask for more, so it goes but still we give ourselves to this we can't spend our lives waiting to live" Basicly they are on tour playing thier songs, they devote themselfs to their work and for them that is their life that they are living, instead of being at home all the time. "she got down on hands and knees, one ear against the ground, holding her breath to hear something, but the dirt made not a sound tonight" Maybe this verse is a phone call that wasnt answered or no one rang her, and the end verse which says "child im coming home" could be that she got a phone call from him saying that the tour is over and ill be home soon. |

It's about ending a relationship and one party hurts alot more then the other and realises that there is no going back.... so they both become stubborn and pretend that nothing has happened and use casual conversations because they both dont really know what to say to each other. It's just like friendship after a relationship... it doesnt work sometimes cause one person will always want to go back and the other won't accept it. Obviously he is talking about drowning his sorrows in alcohol, and sometimes when you get depressed about someone you tend to not eat as much as you normaly would.. |

I think this song is about being misguided. basicly having the devil and god raging inside of you trying to get you on one of there sides you gonna destroy? or are you going to believe? who do you carry the torch for? the devil or god? Also about the whats better thing, that's your view and i respect that and i think it's wrong people should turn agasint you if you do think Deja vu is better, but i think they are generaly trying to get you not to underestimate this album either I like all 3 albums myself, i dont have a favourite because brand new are so diverse in every album, i cant say one is better because they all reflect personal feelings in a different time and place.. i can relate to this latest one at the moment because i am having a struggle in myself at the moment. |

I think it's about some woman that he loved but is getting married and this song represents his conflicts between wanting and letting go. "one more night to be your mother" Parents sometimes can influence relationships of there children, but it depends on the background of the person.. that line probably means that she is saying what her mother wants and therefore he doesn't see her, just her mother |

i'd drown all these crying babies if i knew that their mothers wouldn't cry i'd hold them down and i'd squeeze real soft to let a piece of myself die This is inner struggle right there... you look at it and think gross, but i see it as getting hurt so badly that you would think of something so evil but realise that it's not who you are. also the last two lines represent what would happen if he did go too far, when people do something they often question what they did and realise that the good person they wanted to be is dead because this is all you will remember. |

It's an after relationship song clearly..well to me anyways "now that you've left make me feel like i'm gone you did all these things i hated" He is trying to state that all the broken promises and all the things she said she would do didnt come true. "maybe if you came back down you'd see it happening to you maybe you'd even care" If she saw him in his depressing state maybe she could show some sympathy for him instead of acting like he never mattered. "and everytime you run away, i know you still have memories" She is trying to block out all memories they have together, she tells him that they didn't matter and she is happy with her new life but something tells him that sometimes she looks back on how he made her happy. "hear me out i don't think you'll make it out hear me out see the writing on the wall" he wants to tell her things but she doesn't care and clearly doesn't want to know but he is still trying so hard to show her |

My conclusion is that He loves her but she just wants to have sex with him or anyone else around and he is telling her that he loved her but it has to end before he gets too hurt hence the line "I'd rather hurt someone than hurt myself" my relation to this song is the simple hatred he has for the person he loves which is kinda the same with my own life at the moment where my ex left me for someone else. At first i thought i loved her but i started to hate her so much and got really angry and this song just gives me the strength to forget her and the wisdom to know that i was too good for her. |
