most people who listen to Interpol seem to be the intelligencia crowd. this song kind of betrays the mood we have. it's very open and "accessible." very very radio. worse than evil, though on the same track. it makes Interpol likeable by those who are less like the intelligencia. i don't like the song much, but it's alright. |

| Interpol – PDA Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| only one guy in interpol has anything close to a "gay" lifestyle and actually, he's bicurious/-sexual. danial, sam, and paul are all in long term relationships with women, while carlos just likes to have sex. | |
| Interpol – Obstacle 1 Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| "clay-making" means "pretending." you know, you mold things out of clay. they choose to mold a false reality out of it. | |
| Interpol – NYC Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i once put this song on repeat. my neighbor came up with a large bag of weed and we got stoned together then had incredible sex. the song was perfect for just that occasion. he has long since moved away, but he left a green lighter behind as a reminder. sometimes, when i listen to this song, i light up with it. it's a lovely feeling. | |
| Interpol – Not Even Jail Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
"I'll lay down my glasses, I'll lay down in houses, if things come alive." I'm attacking this in two ways. By "lay[ing] down [his] glasses" he either means he'll stop scrutinizing everything she does or kick his drinking habit. The "houses" part means he's willing to settle down, that is, if the relationship comes out of its dead end. "I'll subtract pain by ounces, yeah, I will start painting houses, if things come alive." This means he'll slowly become a better person, so she'll stop hurting over him. And "painting houses" could mean he'll get a steady job or he'll be ready for a family. You know, painting a new home they've bought together. "I promise to commit no acts of violence, be it physical or otherwise, if things come alive." He's saying he'll be sweet to her. He won't hit her or emotionally abuse her. "I'll say it now...'cause I want it now." He's just anxious for things to happen so they can get out of this rut. "When personality is scar tissue, it travels south with disuse." Just like when someone has surgery and the scar tissue becomes deeper and deeper with time and eventually unnoticed until the area is cut into again, someone's hidden emotions remain out of sight until something cuts into them. "I'm subtle like a lion's cage; such a cautious display." Outside, he's calm and harmless, but inside, he's raging with emotion. "Remember take hold of your time here, give some meanings to the means to your end. Not even jail." He's telling her to make sure she doesn't waste time over meaningless issues, that she pays attention to herself and figures her own life out. "Not even jail" could confine her as much as she is confining herself. "We marshal in the days of longing, we tremble like anyone's children, and wink towards the fire." The relationship is tumbling and they're afraid; "like anyone's children" means "anybody." Everyone is somebody's child. They see it coming but they can't turn away from it. "I'm erring on the side of caution, betraying no other symptom, but girl, you shake it right." He's trying to be careful about the situation, even though what he's telling her is like walking on eggshells with their already delicate relationship. He's being outwardly stoic, but she seems to keep asking just the right questions to get the real feelings out of him. "I will bounce you on the lap of silence, we will free love to the beats of science. And girl, you shake it right." Apparently, they're having amazing make-up sex right about now. "I'll say it now." "Oh, but hold it still, darling, your hair so pretty. Can't you feel the warmth of my sincerity?" She's starting to tremble because she's crying, and he's reassuring her by telling her how pretty she is, trying to make her feel better. He's promising that he's not trying to hurt her, he's just being honest. "You make motion when you cry. You're making people's lives feel less private. Oh hey, don't take time away. You make motion when you cry." She's now sobbing. She's kind of embarrassing people because she's displaying the emotion everyone feels but can't show in public. She has proposed to take a break from the relationship but it's not what he wants. "We all hold hands, can't we all hold hands, when we make new plans?" He wants her full input on their tomorrow. He's almost begging her to take part in the relationship. "I pretend like no one else to try to control myself. I'm subtle like a lion's cage, such a cautious display. Remember take hold of your time here; give some meanings to the means to your end. Not even jail." He is trying so hard to keep his stoic shell while still reminding her to take control of her own destiny. I love this song. |

| Interpol – Narc Lyrics | 20 years ago |

i think ANTICS really surprised me because of its more upbeat, dancier songs. the lyricism is more like storytelling as well, more developed. Turn on the Bright Lights was a lot more umm...willowy? strange choice of word but the best i can think of. i'm definitely more of a Turn on the Bright Lights fan but there is room in my heart for ANTICS. in fact, i love both cds. it's different music for different moods. anyway! it's about sex, but they're not in a real relationship. they just kind of see each other. they seem to be good friends though. |

| Interpol – Length of Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| pikka's comment reminds me of english class essays. the passage is four lines long but the essay ends up running five pages. :) | |
| Interpol – Leif Erikson Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
this song is about me in the last relationship (if you could call it that) i was in. the girl doesn't want to get too personal in the relationship, and she kind of ridicules her lover for being so clingy. he's getting increasingly serious about the relationship and also resentful because she's just brushing it off. he knows he's getting played but he doesn't care because he's in love. deep down she knows this, but he's not about to tell her because she won't return his feelings with the same intensity. |

| Interpol – Hands Away Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
personally, i feel like the song is more about an off-the-cuff affair, then, similarly to clueless, the ensuing guilt. "will you put my hands away, will you be my man?" this woman is asking her lover to take her and to not let her reservations get in the way. Hands in this song keep reminding me of some kind of struggle, like the woman is having second thoughts about her actions in the beginning. "serve it up, don't wait. let's see about this ham." she wants to do it before she changes her mind. the "ham" is the rediculous situation they're in. "oh, what happened?" the guilt has slapped her in the face. "homespun desperation's knowing. inside your cover's always blown." the woman understands why she did it, but introspectively she knows what she did was wrong, and she can't hide from herself. that's my take, anyway. |

| Interpol – Evil Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this is their most pop-ish song. it's very radio. i was disappointed by this but not too much so because the song is really quite good. they managed to make something airwaveable without betraying the fans. | |
| Interpol – Direction Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| of course, not one of the best, but i love the ambience. :) | |
| Interpol – Cubed Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| bloody hell. i've never heard this one. | |
| Interpol – C'mere Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i've wanted to say everything in this song to someone. it's rediculous how clearly paul puts it when i'd sound like a buffoon trying to get it out. | |
| Interpol – A Time to Be So Small Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I love that all of ANTICS seems to have a maritime theme. | |
| The Postal Service – Nothing Better Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| this song makes me cry and danse all at once. | |
| The Postal Service – We Will Become Silhouettes Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| ben gibbard seems to be a very socially conscious individual so i definitely think the lyrics allude to a bombing in the hiroshima/nagaski fashion (deepcove, that IS terribly ironic). but i think that his immense cleverness has led him to use the allusion metaphorically as a way to express shutting himself off from everyone out of fear after a life-changing occurrence. he's obviously isolated, but maybe whatever happened FEELS to him like an atom bomb has dropped. *shrug* | |
| The Postal Service – The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| i love this song so much. i listened to it on the plane on the way to DC. i got to the city and loved it so much that i'm moving there this summer. | |
