Regina Spektor – Fidelity Lyrics 18 years ago
I think it's about a girl who is protecting her heart and distracting herself with music. Instead of experiencing love, she just listened to songs about it.

Then she does meet someone, falls in love, and then has her heart broken. In the second verse, she is reflecting on the "what ifs" of never meeting him--as we all do when we are wounded and just want the pain to go away.

Imogen Heap – Headlock Lyrics 18 years ago
I have never seen this song as anything relevant to love or relationships. I think it's about being stuck in the same old life routine. Something monotonous and boring.

I think the lyrics "we're a different pair" are incorrect. I think the line is supposed to be:

"Wear a different pair, just something out of step,
Throw a stranger an unexpected smile."

The narrator is addressing this person stuck in their life cycles and telling them that they could do significantly better. All it takes is the ability to step out and change your life- for example, by going to university or pursuing another major dream.

This person always talks about changing their life someday, but they are all talk and no action. They have huge plans for themself, but they don't follow through. They just keep making excuses as to why they aren't doing what they want. Most importantly, they hold onto whatever it was that caused a major hiccup in their dreams of betterment (ex: unplanned child, taking a year off school, getting married, etc.) and dwell on that. Hence the lines, "with big intention, still posted at your station, always on about the day it should have flown."

Meanwhile, the narrator has doubt that this individual is going to change their life any time soon. Because she does care about the person, she is still looking out for them and making sure they don't crash and burn. Hence the lines, "Monitoring you, like machines do, you've still got it, I'm just keeping an eye".

As people age, they start to believe that they are unable to change their life for the better and this isn't true. That is the message of the song.

Oh, and obviously, it is also about the hard times of growing up and coping with life in general.

I think this song is about a friend that is going through a rough time. I also believe this same friend had let the singer down in the past and thinks that the singer will hold a grudge. Instead, she is saying that she understands, it's okay and they'll still take on life together. It's about acceptance, understanding and forgiveness.

I also think this song is about the end of a relationship. (And not a long distance one.) I think the feelings have faded and the relationship has died. Now they are just trying to accept that their bond has weakened and the spark is gone.

Pink – U + Ur Hand Lyrics 18 years ago
This song, to me, is about all the pervy losers who assume that just because you're at the bar, you're there for them. She isn't looking for a guy to pick her up and she's not gonna let one. That's what the line, "it's over before it began" means. It's not about a relationship, it's about him not even standing a chance. The song is about getting dressed up and having fun for yourself, not for the men. Girls have a right to hit the town without being hung off of!

Frou Frou – It's Good to Be in Love Lyrics 19 years ago
I interpreted "cucumber eyes" as tired eyes. People put cucumbers on swollen eyes to soothe the pain.

I agree that this song is about unreciprocated love.

I imagine the girl as always being supportive of this guy, hoping that he'd find love and happiness. The only part she didn't anticipate, was that the love wouldn't be with her. I think that is especially reinforced in the line, "how's it happening without me?"

Now she's left with the belief that it's "good to be in love," because she's always felt that love was positive. However, she's feeling the pain. A semi-clash of morals versus feelings.

I agree that it's a friendship, developing into more. I think outside influences have forced them to admit that they have more than they were willing to admit, and now they are facing their feelings head on.

I think this song is about DENIAL. They split and he's trying to convince himself that he's happy about it, when it's obviously destroying him.

I agree with hogkill2. To reiterate: I think this song is about someone who manipulates everybody around him to get exactly what he wants. He ignores morality and doesn't care about the repricussions. In short, he's a compulsive liar.

Train – It's About You Lyrics 19 years ago
I think song is about a guy, who met a girl and is now sacraficing a lot to be with her. My guess is that he had a lot of plans before meeting her that he is giving up on. She is preventing him from following his dreams and everybody therefore thinks that she's bad for him. He isn't making excuses for her, though, because he knows it's true, hence the line "it's about you". However, he's still in that elated stage of love and he plans to "keep what he's found" regardless. That's my take on it, anyways. Senseless love- the best kind.

3 Doors Down – Behind Those Eyes Lyrics 19 years ago
I agree that it's about cheating. However, I don't think this girl has cheated on him before, I think he has just been cheated on in other relationships. Because of this, he knows that the cheating his latest girl has done signifies the demise of his relationship. He doesn't want to let her go, but her actions are proving that she doesn't care about him in the same way that she used to. Therefore, it's all downhill from here.

The Fray – All At Once Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about two people who have been together for a very long time. Throughout stages of their life, they get together and then break up.

The guy finds himself doubting things. He wants a change, he wants better, he just wants to see if he'd be happier with someone else. He starts to have unrealistic expectations of his relationship and when it is "subpar," he breaks it off.

Turns out, he wouldn't be happier with anyone else. But he finds out too late. The girl has had enough of these antics and moved on with her life. He spent so long trying to figure out what he wanted, that he lost it.

The Fray – How To Save A Life Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is about more than just the drug-addicted teen. I think it's about the person who is trying to "help," but in their way. Instead of understanding the teen and helping them cope in the way that would best suit the teen, they can't see past their own beliefs and values and force-feed methods and suggestions, which include blame and accusations. I think they are unsuccessful in helping the individual, because they are pointing out weaknesses, not working on building strength.

Steve Miller Band – True Fine Love Lyrics 19 years ago
This is one of their best songs. I take the meaning quite literal: He's done playing the game. He wants to meet someone good to love and he wants to raise a family with that person. He's just gotten to that point in his life and he's embracing it.

Nelly Furtado – I'm Like A Bird Lyrics 19 years ago
I more think this song is about falling out of love, than it is about having to leave. She knows that this person is absolutely amazing, but she also knows that she isn't going to feel as strongly about them in the future, because she's still finding her place in life. If she and he get together, she'll only end up breaking his heart.

Kelly Clarkson – Because of You Lyrics 20 years ago
I think it's about both of her parents. First her father, making her ashamed and preventing her from being able to connect with people from fear they will walk out. Then I think it's about her mother depending on her, forcing her to be her support, and burdening her with her problems. As a result, she just broke.

Tracy Chapman – Baby Can I Hold You Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is about making mistakes, and being unable to find the words to say that you were wrong. However, the person is still able to express love and wants things to be okay. They just don't know how to fix it, without damaging their pride.

And yes, we can definitely agree that it is beautiful.

Goldfinger – Question Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is about someone who constantly messes up their own life, and then whines ENDLESSLY about it. And really, their problems are very trivial in the first place.

Goldfinger – This Lonely Place Lyrics 20 years ago
To me, this song is about some asshole that constantly treats his girl like shit, but she is too dependant to actually break up with him. She puts up with it, because being cheated on is still better than being without this guy and feeling lonely.

Less Than Jake – The Upwards War And The Down Turned Cycle Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is about growing up, moving through the motions of life and having to face a rather dull reality. Yet, no matter how bleak their circumstances are, they always hold onto this hope that things are going to get better and have more meaning. These people always say that they are going to change things, but I think the song is rather cynical, in that this hope of betterment will likely always remain a hope.

Less Than Jake – Motown Never Sounded So Good Lyrics 20 years ago
And you need,
A brand new face,
To match a brand new place.

I had a different interepretation. I thought it meant that this person had changed their personality, values and goals. I took it as the person becoming a whole new person, because they were in a whole new place.
