The Pogues – Boys From The County Hell Lyrics | 17 years ago |
interesting refrence to Mei Lei in the 5th verse.. if anyone knows about what happened at Mei Lei during the vietnam war... the origional lyric was "my brother earned his medals raping gooks in vietnam" changed for obvious reasons |
Paul Simon – The Obvious Child Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think the song is pretty much a journey through life kinda thing.. the first verse is talking about life at the present, asking 'am i just used to things being easy? or have i just lost my edge?' kinda thing... and the whole 'why deny the obvious... well i guess its kinda obvious what that means... 'some people say a lie is just a lie'... well thats obviously not true so why deny the obvious... and in remembering a road sign i am remembering a girl when i was young... i think thats about how you can remember something and it makes you think of something else.. like seeing this roadsign from his childhood reminds him of a girl that he perhaps was with near it or something... really not sure what the cross is in the ballpark is about.. then the story just moves further through life and becomes about the son, Sonny.. and sonny seems to have some sort of midlife crisis or something... so... yeah thats what i reckon |
Paul Simon – The Cool, Cool River Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i cant believe no-one has commented on this yet! this is an absolutely amazing song. that last section from 'and i believe in the future we shall suffer no more' to the end just breaks my heart every time |
Paul Simon – Hearts And Bones Lyrics | 18 years ago |
'the arc of a love affair' this pretty much summs up the whole song. |

erebusknight is completelty correct. dark out stop saying that her mouth is the chamber or whatever... its not! her mouth on the metal in talking about her having the gun in her mouth, as many people do when killing themselves with a gun, and in case you hadnt noticed, guns are generally made out of metal. theres the whole russian roulette thing going on in there... yeah |
Neil Young – Southern Man Lyrics | 18 years ago |
you know there actually might be some people here who actually want to talk about the song, instead of turning it into some fucking racist debate like all you fucking whinging antiracists always do. so... about the song... Neil Young seems to have a lot to say about american politics and stuff considering hes a canadian.... like that other song he had 'lets roll'.... i didnt like that song |
Paul Simon – You Can Call Me Al Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i actually saw an interview with paul simon about this song. its alot about his life and alot about going to africa and stuff written in a joke-like format. 'a man walks down the street' its the same as 'a man walks into a bar' its a classic opening line for a joke, paul simon actually said that. amusingly in this interview he also said that the first 4 lines of the second verse are actually a penis joke... think about it the betty and al thing is as jed said in the first comment posted. |
Paul Simon – Kodachrome Lyrics | 18 years ago |
soapy was correct in saying that this song is about how nostalgia doesnt match reality but we prefer nostalgia and memory. this idea is written through the metaphor of how the Kodachrome company used to make pictures quite alot brighter than they were in reality to make thing look brighter and better hence the line:"Kodachrome, it gives us those nice bright colors Gives us the greens of summers Makes you think all the world's a sunny day" it may interest you to know that originally the line 'everything looks worse in black and white' was written as 'everything looks better in black and white' which is a metaphor about how memories often appear in black and white, but at the time the Kodochrome company were promoting bright colours and made him change the line but he still sings the original lyrics at some live performances such as concert in the park. and no benrice Kodachrome is not a metaphor for acid. |

David Bowie – Diamond Dogs Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i think david bowie wrote this song using his old trick of cutting up bits of paper with random words on them and picking them up in a random order as he has done many times. i think you are all reading just a little too much into this song. |
