apparently the song has a different yet subjective meaning to every person. i personally think ben is referring to his personal fight with doing whats rite and whats wrong. the song sounds almost as if he is somewhat clueless about whats wrong and rite. in the second verse his lyrics kind of portray that he feels consumed by evil, but yet there is still a sense of not knowing if it is evil for sure |

apparently this is strictly opinion so i believe most of you are pretty clhose. i, as well, believe it is about a relationship. but im not sure if it is with the parents or a significant other. i do believe that he/she has changed for what society would see as " for the better". it could have been an addiction or just his/her over all view of life. i also believe he/she doesnt even care for the others to see but that he/she knows it and that he/she feels free from what they were into. i believe his only question is what is to come |

In the first verse he's obviously stating that he realizes he's in love with someone that he never really fell out of love with. But he knows that it wont work or that she doesnt feel the same. When he says "Just like a burning candle, I'd be your burning sun
Just like a wind, to carry you across the ocean". He's simply using it as an analogy to try to show how much he loves her. That he would be something as big as the sun to her or as simple as the wind. He would be her anything and everything if she would just let him.
In the chorus it seems as if he is asking to himself what she would do if she really knew how he felt. would she give him another chance or would she brush him off? In my opinion he isnt necessarily singing to her he's only stating that he'd do anything to be with her, but that just the thought of not being with her wont let his mind be free.
In the second verse he comes back to realization of truth. That he doesnt have her and that she may not even kno how he really feels, but that even if she did there wouldnt be a chance because of the stains of the past. But those stains are ones he hasnt been able to forget. |
