Thrice – Identity Crisis Lyrics 20 years ago
While I am not a religious person by any means, this song reminded me of a story in the Bible. In that story, God commanded one of his followers to sacrifice his son. He tied the son up and raised the dagger, deciding in the end that no matter what, he loves God more than his son. When God saw that he would kill his son for Him, he told him to stop and instead sacrifice a sheep.

The 'Private Wars' 'Dual volitions' 'test of faith' lines is about a war within himself. In that light, it would be a war between the part of him that is a follower of God, and the part of him that is a Father. He isn't sure what's more important to him, or which he is first and foremost. Hence his Identity Crisis.

The third stanza COULD be from a new viewpoint. The viewpoint of the son who is to be sacrificed. He accepts his death if it is for God. At the same time, it could be an emotional dagger striking the Father, because even though he isn't physically being stabbed, life without his Son (Not to mention being the one who sacrificed his son) is a deeper wound than any dagger can make.

The last stanza sums everything up quite nicely. He would 'live and die both unto you' because he devotes his entire life to God, at the same time, the Father part of his life will die.

That's just one way to look at it.

Black Sabbath – Under The Sun Lyrics 20 years ago
Having grown up with a lot of pushy Christians (No offense to the religion, just to some of those representing it), this song had an Atheist 'Leave me alone, damn it' sort of tone. The 'frustration' could be older people who are frustrated with mortality, or younger people who struggle with thier religion. Hiding thier real faces could signify corrupt Priests or Pastors. Behind each flower grows a weed, for me, signified the entire Christian religion. While it has good morals at it's base, the corrupt people representing it would be the weeds. (Not ALL of the people, just the corrupt ones.)

(Note: While I use the term 'Christians' mostly, feel free to replace this with most any religion. ((No black magician telling me to cut my soul out)))

I can see why and how you others would think it's about not pressuring into conformity, and I agree - that very well could be the intended meaning. But the song means what you put into it, and when you look at it from my view, the meaning changes to fit my view. Please, no one be offended by this.

Pink Floyd – Time Lyrics 20 years ago
I think that the 'The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say' part signified the singer dying. In the Breath Reprise, the person was in Heaven and finally achieved clarity/peace. As for the very last part, I had no idea, but when I looked at it from the 'Heaven' perspective, it made a bit more sense to me.

Avenged Sevenfold – Strength of The World Lyrics 20 years ago
First of all, I think this song is probaly telling the story of a girl, not a man, simply because of the very last line. This persons family was, obviously murdered, but not all at once. I believe the father and sister were previously dead BEFORE the mother, yet they still died by the people going after the woman. Not just a person, but people.

As for the chorus, I think it has something to do with religion. Other lines (A killer falling from the light, Sitting in Silence with Heaven above me, I can't turn my cheek, etc, etc) symbolize a strong sense of religion being broken. 'But now I leave your side, to avenge my families pride' is a direct line towards God. So, the 'Strength of the World' replaces the Strength the woman once had, Strength of God, Religion, etc. These unfortunate events tore her from religion, which leads to the rage filled lyrics like 'Avenge the dead kill all who cross me in my path' or 'Need nothin', to feel power, and bring the killers to thier knees.'

Despite the tragedy of this persons story, there is a more personal, internal tragedy within the woman as she kills both those responsible and her own values. At least that's what I think. In that light, it sort of reminds me of Kill Bill in some regards.

Thrice – T & C Lyrics 20 years ago
As a musician myself, I tend to agree with some of what Invitalis posted. The notes being out of key and snapping strings could be from frustration at not accomplishing the idea you had in your head, or not progressing towards that idea despite lots of practice. The way they mixed the yelling and singing in those parts really, at least to me, gave me that feeling.

Thrice – Don't Tell And We Won't Ask Lyrics 20 years ago
For Thrice880, with the 'Hitman' as his obvious meaning theory, the blue blood probaly wouldn't represent superiority. Many insects have different color blood, and many of them certainly arn't superior. Looking at it from a 'Hitman' perspective, human blood is actually blue before it gets air. Or, the color blue is often symbolized with Ice or coldness. Personally, I think the 'We do it all in self defense' line completely destroys that theory anyway.

This songs meaning changes depending on what you put into it. For one person, it might be war, for another, it might be Abortion. For another, it could depend on thier mood at the time.
