| Imogen Heap – Just for Now Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i definitely agree with the Christmas idea. Probably like..a family that doesn't really get along too well, and in the beginning things are all fine but by the end of the night [and song], dinner is burnt, people are drunk and irritable, and the evening is ruined. | |

| Well, about the guy's voice in the background around 3:20, she thanks Richie Mills for "sexy male voices" on this track. So. | |

i think this song is about the view from a divorce looking back on an abusive relationship.. where are we? what the hell is going on? the dust has only just begun to fall crop circles in the carpet sinking feeling -This shows how they're both realizing how bad things were when they move out of the house. spin me 'round again and rub my eyes this can't be happening -She can't believe the mess she got into. when busy streets a mess with people would stop to hold their heads heavy -This could be showing how bad things were in the house. Bad enough to make large amounts of people notice and feel bad. hide and seek trains and sewing machines all those years they were here first -This could be about the games they played, toys they had, and clothes they mended for their children. Who may have been born before the marriage ["they were here first']. oily marks appear on walls where pleasure moments hung before the takeover the sweeping insensitivity of this still life -The "oily marks" could be smudged handprints and marks from objects that were thrown at the walls, knocking down paintings ["where pleasure moments hung before"]. And the sweeping insensitivity is the abuse. hide and seek trains and sewing machines blood and tears they were here first -Once again, the children. And maybe they were abused as well ["blood and tears"]. mm what d'ya say? that you only meant well, well, of course you did this, it's all for the best, of course it is that it's just what we need, you decided this what did you say? -One of them has made the decision that they need to divorce, that it will be the best for everyone. ransom notes keep falling out your mouth mid-sweet talk newspaper word cut outs speak no feeling, no, I don't believe you you don't care a bit -The husband can't get over the wife and keeps trying to get in touch with her, but she won't listen because she knows he doesn't really care. |

this song.... in the beginning it reminds me of a musical. then it reminds me of sixteen candles. don't ask why! but i think it's about like, uh. f*ck. i dunno. but i'm pretty much guessing it's about like, getting older and forgeting shit, and wondering why. and telling yourself that you're gonna try and fight that. |

when i first heard the acoustic version, i thought it was like, a dad talking to his kids, like he and his wife were getting a divorce and the kids had to choose which parent they wanted to stay with, and he was like, "don't leave me, stay with me" (don't say that i'm the one you want to lose). and i also thought it was "tangle with daddy" like, wrestling for one last time... but i was wrong. |
