how do you guys get a broken relationship out of this? pitselehhhhh is correct. this is basically elliott smith talking to himself. he does it in many of his songs. it is a heartbreaking song because it shows what smith went through and how he felt. just really sad stuff.

i saw some lyrics from this song in a friend's (i guess that is what she is now) profile. so i looked it up. i didn't really like the song at all. musically, that is. lyrically, it was alright, mainly because i hope that is how she really feels. she deserves the best and obviously that's not what i can be.
i agree with the commenter above who stated it conveys hope for the future. he states, he'll try to sleep, but later contradicts it by saying he is trying hard not to sleep. i feel this shows the hope or the letting go of the love one. "sleep" brought the dreams of the loved one. by trying not to "sleep", it would seem they are trying to "fly away" or get away from those dreams. completely off, probably. but that's how i see it, personally of course.

My god. Talk about pretentious song titles. Does Sufjan thrive on this?
Honestly, this song is shit. Much like many of Sufjan's. Flame me all you want but it is true. Pitchforkers praise Sufjan like he is some indie god. Truth be told, his lyrics are mediocre. The guy goes to a library and then recites his notes with a melody. It is hilarious.
Sometimes, I feel like he wants to be Elliott Smith. Well, that isn't going to happen. Elliott wrote how he felt, Sufjan just mimics the feelings. Better luck next time!

This song is definitely has more of a religious aspect than being about a boyfriend/girlfriend. I think it is about his relationship with God or Jesus. The evidence he is shown is from all the non-believers trying to prove it with science. But Jeremy ignores this because he knows once he dies, God will be waiting for him with arms wide open. God will always be the one he loves and the one he trusts. It is so wonderful to have that. It is candy. |

It is pretty obvious what this song is about, focusing on the bitter divorce between Tim and his wife, which much of his songs do. I love the metaphor in this with Autumn and how much change is brought about with that season. CountMyCrows, I believe you take the song a little too literally, when it is meant to be more metaphoric. But everyone has their different views. Either way, excellent, although heartbreaking, song by a wonderful band.
Also, I must say, I prefer the acoustic version of this song.
