| Porcupine Tree – Sever Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| IMHO this version of the song is overshadowed by "Sever Tomorrow", the demo version available on "Insignificance". | |
| Porcupine Tree – It Will Rain For A Million Years Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I have no idea what the lyrics mean, beyond the obvious description of someone floating through space, but I find this is one of the best 'ambient' style songs PT have released. It has so much atmosphere! The sound is far more mature than the rest of the album, and shows clearly the direction PT were going musically. | |
| Porcupine Tree – Even Less (Demo) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
"But Jesus was crucified for doing nothing And God is worshiped for even less" He seems to be suggesting that doing nothing can be a crime, but can also be the exact opposite. The ambiguity about the kids in the second verse looks as if the narrator is saying "you can't control everything, some things just ARE". This version is better than the versions that appeared on the Stupid Dream and Recordings albums. |

| Porcupine Tree – Arriving Somewhere But Not Here Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think this song is about unexpected death in the general sense - no one expects to die through a smashing windscreen, or by being shot, or poisoned. "Don't look for the truth in your mother's eyes" - could this be about a parent saying what needs to be said to protect their child, even to the point of lying to them? |

| Nine Inch Nails – We're in This Together Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
"the farther i fall i'm beside you as lost as i get i will find you the deeper the wound i'm inside you for ever and ever i am a part of [you and me]" Whatever happens, the two of us will be together through it. In sickness and in health, if you like. "you and me even after everything you're the queen and i'm the king nothing else means anything" Says it all - nothing is important beyond you and I. |

| Marilyn Manson – Mechanical Animals Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Because I like finding alternative meanings to the popular vision ;) "I am never gonna be the one for you. I am never gonna save the world from you." He's not good enough for these people (the pop-music crowd? ;)), and he will never be big enough to prevent them from eventually destroying him (ie the band / genre) - the world is destined to be overrun by sheep-like robots (mechanical animals, har har!), and he's powerless to save the world from the flock. |

| Marilyn Manson – Coma White Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
"You were from a perfect world A world that threw me away today Today to run away" Suggests that he considers himself imperfect - the girl lives in a perfect world, but because he's not perfect himself, that world rejected him. "A pill to make you numb A pill to make you dumb A pill to make you anybody else But all the drugs in this world Won't save her from herself" Take drugs to block the pain, take them to dull your awareness and excuse you putting your head in the sand, take drugs to become somebody else, either temporarily (in a club?) or permanently (addiction?), but you'll never be able to escape who you are. Fabulous song, lessened slightly by the appearance of the slighlty inferior Coma Black on the following album. |
