| Gin Blossoms – Hey Jealousy Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I think that these lines say a lot: "If you don't expect too much from me You might not be let down Cause all I really want is to be with you Feeling like I matter too If I hadn't blown the whole thing years ago I might be here with you" The lead singer suffered from alcoholism and depression; it was his drinking that led to the end of the relationship with this girl. He never stopped loving her and he wanted another chance, to have things be the way that they were when their relationship was good. |

| The Cars – Drive Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| It's about a person who has pushed nearly everyone out of their lives (possibly because of some kind of drug/alcohol addiction or because they are being abused) who still seeks the help of this one person to drive them home, almost steer them the right way (away from alcohol, drugs or their abuser). | |
| The Police – Every Breath You Take Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Sting has said that when he wrote it, he was mentally and emotionally in a very dark place. It's definitely about being stalked and obsessed - the obsession takes over to the point that it really blots out any illusion of love that could have existed. It genius to write such a sinister song and wrap it up with such beautiful music. | |
| Elton John – I Want Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
He is seeking a love that isn't the idealized, over-romanticzied type that we seek when we're young. He has no illusions and though he doesn't quite feel worthy of it, he wants it despite that: "I can't love, shot full of holes. Don't feel nothing, I just feel cold. Don't feel nothing, just old scars. Toughening up around my heart." And though "A man like me, is dead in places," he wants to be like "Other men, feel liberated" because they have love. |

| U2 – Running To Stand Still Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Definitely a song about addiction. I always saw the line "I see seven towers, but I only see one way out" as being about suicide/overdose. | |
| Sia – Breathe Me Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| The phrase "Breathe Me" is asking to revive her, sustain her, give her life. She obviously suffering from either an addiction or anorexia or even self mutilation. In any case, it sounds like she is losing all sense of who she was and needs someone to "breathe her", to save her. | |
