I understood that he was directing the question to himself. He felt he needed to take responsibility for what he's done to his life, after ripping himself apart, he took a look at what he's become, deciding he wasn't happy with himself. In the video he carries on just like the little butterfly that survived the tornado, moving on... :) |

I'd just like to say I think it's hilarious how there is not one single post here that discusses the actual song, not to mention there are two of these for one song! |

What you guys say seems to be the most logical explanation, but Mudvayne released a video for this song showing a boy who wanted to spend time with his father and be closer to him, but he never recieved any attention. I guess you can fit this into the song. But I thought it was wierd how they mixed the positive dream with the negative side of it:
"Dreams of mourning grief, ...dreams of tragedy, ...Dreams of fidelity. Dreams of inner peace, dreams of loyalty, dreams of unity. All gone"
Maybe the boy's dreams of spending time with his father were ignored. I guess when they were talking about dreams of tragedy, all gone... they meant that the kid wanted those dreams to go away? I don't know. The video kind of confused me. |

I really can't see of it in any other way than that of using drugs. Can anyone else explain something other than drugs?
I just wanted to point out when they say "Mudvayne returned", how I guess they meant that they are seen as the garbage of society again, as is the meaning of their name, Mudvayne. |

Yeah, I thought that part where it says "push" and "breathe" was referring to a mother giving birth. But what is with all this religion speak? I don't see it as him speaking to god when he says "I lost you, you were my god, thought what do I do now, you were never there for me, never there to carry me, one set of footprints in the sand, no one to take my hand". I felt like he was saying that he once looked up to his father, as his "god", but then lost him when he realized he wasn't there for him. Also, yes, that was part of a poem called Footprints or something like that about god, but I replaced god with Chad's dad in that picture, showing how alone he felt when no one took his hand to support him. |

I'm sorry, I thought Silenced was similar to this. How can this be the first song about politics? |

Wow, looks like no one really has much of an opinion about this song. Well, um, my best guess is that it's about everyone throwing their shit onto someone and that they "can't drain, I just absorb". They take in all the garbage from other people and see life as a pile of smelly shit? |

Wow, am I glad I came here, because I never thought of this song being about his ex-wife. Though now that I see it, it makes just as much sense. They way I saw it was being screwed up by other people like parents, for example, and having the courage to forget all that was done to you and move on. How it isn't your fault, and that you better get over it or you're fucked. |

I pretty much agree with all you guys, I see it as how society has lost all goodness and how people reproduce all the shit they learn and make it worse: "guilty of the same things, provoked by the cause". And how even his best friend is fading away from him because nothing in the world is pure anymore. He explains how he is trying to"find a darkened corner, a lightless corner, where it's safer and calmer" and turning away from everyone because everything in the world has turned to shit because he is tired of trying to fix everything: "Cause I'm through mending the wounds of us". |

| Mudvayne – A Key To Nothing Lyrics

When I first heard the song I had the impression he was talking about suicide also. When he says "no more...", I thought he was talking about him not having to deal with society and all of life's problems. The key to nothing he speaks of is the answer to his distress: suicide. When he says it's a small killing, he's probably talking about how it would make such a little difference to the world and nobody would pay attention if he gave up and left. |
