Daphne Loves Derby – Hopeless Love Lyrics 20 years ago
huh. i never noticed the whispering thing when the song slows down! wow.. this song touches me so much more now. i don't care how corny that sounds. the thing that gets me is.. he's not WHISPERING, he's TALKING.. just not near the mic. so i get this image of a guy who's so frustrated and heart broken that he just can't hold in his feelings anymore so he talks out loud, offering his words to anyone who will listen.

this song.. i love it.

Daphne Loves Derby – Midnight Highway Lyrics 20 years ago
kinda sounds like a summer romance. they have their fun, guy falls for girl but she has to leave when summer ends. neither expected a meaningful relationship so her departure is a bitter one. in the end he realizes that it wouldn't have worked.

i left a great guy at home when i left for college. this song hits home.

Daphne Loves Derby – The Longest Story Lyrics 20 years ago
this was the first DLD song i ever heard, too! i love them.

i think he pretty much longs for the past, for a time where everything was perfect, love was real. also, i think he's struggling for closure, to move on - "someday i know i'll find a way to keep myself from holding on."

pretty much, DLD brings the i-wish-we-could-go-back song to perfection.

Mae – Mistakes We Knew We Were Making Lyrics 20 years ago
i've been listening to mae for a while now but i can't believe i didn't pay attention to these lyrics until last night. umm.. i personally think it's abortion. abortion can be seen as a mistake that people know they're making; a conscious decision. i can understand how it could be seen as a song about an unplanned pregnancy but what couple reads magazines while the woman is in labor? .. "magazines and empty distractions barely got US through."

BUT THEN maybe the couple was planning on having an abortion but changed their minds which would account for this line: "and when we try to think of the life inside, we found ourselves looking at the world through new eyes." hmm.

ooh, or MAYBE it's about a miscarriage!! because the "little one on the other side" might imply that the baby died :(

ok, yeah. i don't know. but i love this song anyway.
