This song makes me cry every single time I listen to it. I think it's about losing someone (of course) and missing that person, wanting them back. She made him feel everything good, though all he has today is a photograph. I think in a way he finds himself flawed "my past is perilous, each scar I bear sings" and that person amplified everything he liked about himself. The past for him are monuments, important, something to hang on to, and the future without her is just melodies, sad and melancholic. And in the bridge, "Still-life can only go so far" I think the world is slow motion until she comes back to him, saying she chooses him the way he is. Truly a beautiful song that never dies, one that will haunt me for forever.

I don't really care WHY anyone wrote this song..it's simply one of the saddest songs I've ever heard. It conveys such emotion that I've never really realized before. Every time I hear this song I still cry. I think it's about missing someone..(of course) and that the past he had with her were monuments, important to him, something to hang on to, and where he's going are just melodies, sad and melancholic. I also think that in a way he finds himself flawed "my past is perilous, each scar I bear sings" and it's why the chorus is what it is. That person amplified the best of him, and he misses and wants that back. They made him everything he liked about himself. And in the bridge of "Still-life can only go so far" I think everything for him is just slow motion until he sees her again..telling him she chooses him the way he is. Truly, a beautiful song that never dies, one that will haunt me for forever.

I think this song is about..that the worst was expected in the relationship, but he loved her and had good times "dancing in the clouds" but in the back of his mind, he knew it would end..and how..he wanted the best of it all but she only gave the worst. I love this song..I'm so glad he's a part of Incubus also. Such a vital person..so talented and awesome!

I think this song is about someone that he loved (obviously) that kept weighing him down and was too draining on him. He finally sees he's better off without that person and feels better without them. Compared to the weight she was to him, he's now "empty handed." Great song..great great song.
