| Bruce Springsteen – A Good Man Is Hard To Find Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| hmm, thought there may be some connection or parallels to the Flannery O'Connor short story by the same name... but I dont think so. | |

well---that's funny, you know, since you were the one who told me the bit about them never being on the cover. i guess we both stand corrected. |

| T. Rex – Get It On (Bang A Gong) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| ...does anyone know about the band's seeming infatuation with cars? a lot of their songs have some refernce to cars...why? | |
| Shel Silverstein – 25 Minutes To Go Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Johnny Cash sings a version of this Shel Silverstein song/poem. This one reminds me a lot of that "I'm Being Eaten by Boa Constrictor"--also, of course, by Shel Silverstein. |

| The White Stripes – The Denial Twist Lyrics | 20 years ago |

there are a lot of things about this song (and others on the album) that lead me to believe its about jack whites relationship with Zellweger. seems to be about him falling hard for her while he was the proverbial notch on the bedpost for her. then she moved on quickly to others. also he laments the fact that he knew this all along but he was "hearing a different song." one of my favorite lines is "make sure to never do it with a singer cause he'll tell everyone n the world" kind of like his one piece redemption for having his heart broken |

| interestingly enough, Dr Hook never did--even after this song--appear on the cover of Rolling Stone. | |
| Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show – Hey, Lady Godiva Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
this song was actually written by Shel Silverstein--just as almost every Dr Hook song was. It's his version of the old story about Lady Godiva, a woman who rode naked through the city in support of the arts and protesting the oppressive taxes her husband (the lord of the city) imposed on the people. She had only her long locks to maintain any modesty.(You can look up the story on Wikipedia.) Legend also has it that no one was to look out their window as she rode through town, but one eager man named Tom did--hence the term 'Peeping Tom.' Anyway, I don't see any great similarities between Silverstein's version and the actual legend, save of course it's a naked woman on a horse. |

| John Hiatt – Cry Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
edit: also, this may seem like an odd connection, but the theme of this song reminds me very much of a Tegan and Sara song called "Speak Slow". This is why "When your love lets you go you only want love more even when love wasn't what you were looking for" ...that's all. |

| Bob Dylan – It's All Over Now, Baby Blue Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
for a long time i misinterpreted the first couple lines. i thought it was: "You must leave now, take what you need you think we'll last?" I really liked that line (even if it was wrong) because it was this great contradiction--he's kicking her out in one line while asking 'you think we'll last?' in the next. it seemed so revealing of the real emotions people have in some situations. |

| John Prine – In Spite Of Ourselves Lyrics | 20 years ago |

haha, what a funny song. i really love some of the simple one liners that say everything. case in point: "convict movies make her horny" it seems so silly and irreverant but doesnt it give jsut the perfect mental image of this woman? |

| John Hiatt – Cry Love Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
this song is about how those feelings of love stay with you even after the relationship is over. the lyrics 'cry love' refer to how after youve fallen in and out of love, the next time youre with someone "the next time you feel flame of desire" you feel that surge of feelings and mistake them for love. "The heart will remember The burning fire" the thrown up ashes line i take to mean the remanents of the past love (seeing as love is referred to as a burning flame) |
