| Linkin Park – In The End Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Though this song refers specifically to a previous relationship that he had, most of the lyrics are an adept description of general life despair. "Time is a valuable thing Watch it fly by as the pendulum swings Watch it count down to the end of the day The clock ticks life away It's so unreal" "I tried so hard And got so far But in the end It doesn't even matter" How many of us can relate to the ticking away of time, due to unlucky events or challenging circumstances? I know I can relate. This song resonates. |

| Rod Stewart – Forever Young Lyrics | 19 years ago |
| I agree with godblessatheism. This song is not at all like the one Dylan wrote, except that Stewart copied a few phrases. The original lyrics and melody are much better, particularly when performed by Joan Baez on her album, From Every Stage. The original gentle melody and pace are moving, Stewart's overly instrumented gallop doesn't do anything for me. | |
| Bob Dylan – Shelter from the Storm Lyrics | 19 years ago |

This song has come to be my favorite Dylan song of all time (and I am a huge Dylan fan)... due to the fact that the lyrics have so much personal meaning to me. I was in the middle of a tumult in my life, a "storm," and I met someone, who at the time, "took my crown of thorns." I love the lyric: "Try imagining a place where it's always safe and warm." That is what this girl in my life seem to offer. But the refuge turned out to be fleeting and perhaps never genuine to begin with. "In a little hilltop village, they gambled for my clothes, I bargained for salvation and she gave me a lethal dose. I offered up my innocence and got repaid with scorn." Wow! He articulates the emotional betrayal so well. Yes, he uses references from the Gospels. Maybe this is pretentious of Dylan, comparing his suffering to Christ's. But we do all suffer and perhaps the message of the New Testament is that though everyone has harsh trials, there is hope. If the Gospels provide a universal metaphor, then I do not think it is wrong to compare one's suffering to Christ's. In any case, this song and the album (Blood on the Tracks) are awesome. I don't think that any other artist has achieved Dylan's song-writing mastery. |

| Wondermints – Ooh Child Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song came out when I was 10 yrs old back in 1970 ... I think I liked it because maybe I was having a hard time in my family and this song was soothing. I still love it. | |
| Joan Baez – The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song came out when I was 11 yrs old and it was unlike anything I had ever heard on the radio. ... this strong voice singing the song from the perspective of a civil war soldier. I became a Joan Baez fan at that time. | |
| Benny Mardones – Into The Night Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This song is so passionately delivered. I think it is one of the best vocal performances in pop music. It is still played a lot on the radio over 20 years after it was first released. Yes, it is creepy that he is singing about a 16-yr old girl ... but heck, my grandmother got married at age 17, to a 32 year old guy (my grandpa). Anyway, if you can temporarily forget about the age thing, the song is awesome. | |
