"I push my fingers into my eyes" is a reference to the method you use when you have a migraine. You press your fingers against the eyelids 'cause "it's the only thing that slowly stops the ache". But the pain comes from shit that he has to take from others or just life in general. The pain's never ending and "works its way inside" like a throbbing migraine would. And the exhausted groan after "and if the pain goes on" illuminates the fact that he's just so fucking tired of the pain. He has screamed until he physically could do not anymore and he waited 'til his time was up, but in the end all he can do is sit and "live with so much fate". He probably was screaming for something/someone he desired because "[he] wished for this, [he] bitched for that", but the fate killed his chances all too well. The "simple fact"? "You cannot kill [love] you did not create". Love is spawned by forces beyond humans and he's cursed, hence the bitching. In a stalker sense, he HAS to say something to the person he's obsessed with: "I've gotta say what I've gotta say, and then I swear I'll go away", but he'll most likely just start screaming again. Which is why "[he] can't promise that you'll enjoy the noise". But the screaming is the grand finale the best saved for last so it is inevitable. “[His] future seems like one big past” because in the end all he sees is his obsession plaguing him, hence the line: “you’re left with me, ‘cause you left me no choice”. “If the pain goes on, [he’s] not gonna make it” because it’s just so fucking hard and life consuming. He doesn’t care if his obsession will tear him into pieces or fix him as long she would “leave [him] all the pieces”, because in the end, that’s all he needs to fix himself. Besides, any contact would be welcome in his case. He needs someone to lie to him and say that the fantasy world he had created is not as good as the reality, but he “found out the hard way” neither is good. A fantasy, although it may seem good, it is not “what it seems”. In the end, he has nothing to look forward. All he has is the insanity that he has created while indulging in his obsessive fantasies. |

I see this as a song about internal conflict. In the beginning, he's like singing slowly and complaining. "Please, leave me alone, for I cannot let this go." But then the other side of him snaps, screaming "Shut the fuck up". The next verse follows the same format, except he doesn't scream at himself this time. Instead he challenges the whining side of him. "Come on, get up, let me see your bruises". He's like taunting himself. Obviously, he went through some tough times and he wants to show proof of how fucked up he is, but at the same time, he's attacking himself for even thinking about complaining. |

The first verse: You can "resist everything except temptation". But what else in the world is there to resist except temptation? It's just another way of admitting that you can't resist anything. "[Your] body breaks but [you're] still intact inside", so even though you're hurting yourself physically you can't erase the things that are inside which was actually your true target. "[Your] human instinct" of "lov[ing] unconditionally" is just how you can not help yourself from loving. It's part of being human. The second verse is reciting ways how the person you love isn't human, unlike you. She "can breathe without oxygen and live without sorrow". She doesn't have a weakness and there's nothing that can hurt her at all. You envy her so much in how she can feel nothing about what had happened while you're hurting yourself for it. Yet, you pit her soul which is probably going to hell. "Ignorance is bliss" means if you didn't know her you wouldn't love her and you really wish that "[you] could never love [her]". In the chorus you are lying to her, and at the same time you're in pain because your conscience is killing you. Everything's not going to work out because of the failure you know you are. You let your emotions take control over you. Also, you can't sleep; the only thing you hear is the words that she had said that will always haunt and kill you. I think that the greatest irony is that how God is the most perfect being in the universe and His greatest creation can become broken beyond repair, yet the backward, sinful, inperfect humans can create robots that are "easily fixed". |

I think that this is a religious song. The first verse: "I'm tired of being what you want me to be" is like you feel like that everything you want to do is considered a sin and you're tired of it. And compared to the other saints around you, you're "feeling so faithless" and "lost under the surface". You don't know you would succeed in satisfying everyone when you're "put under the pressure of walking in [the Saint's] shoes. The second verse describes the way that you feel smothered when God's hand is closing around you, trying to mold you into the perfect person. It feels as though He's afraid to lose control. And everything that He had planned you had "has fallen apart right in front of [Him]" .You're just not the right fit for His plans. Everything you try to do to fix what you had done is just "another mistake to [Him]" andf you're wasting time trying to fix everything and it's just too much. You feel like you're "caught in the undertow" because you're just okay enough to not need to be saved, yet just lost enough to be hurting. After all these things you've been through you feel so numb, numb enough not feel God's grace anymore. You're so tired of living like this and you're aware that you have to change. You're becoming the sins you are commiting, but in the end all you want to do is differentiate between you and Him. You might fail now and you know this. And you know that all the saints around you were also failures too. Supporting my views: The numb video takes place in a church. The first verse is describing the way you just made love with your lover and you're lying in her bed. You're contemplating about yourself and your life and she knows this. "And [you] have reasons to believe that [you're] not the only person [she] spend this time with". In other words, you know that she's cheating on you with other people in this bed you are lying on. But you love her so much you'll still stay. Chorus (1st time): She's telling you that she's weak, but that she won't let you down anyway; she's just lying through her teeth. And now you're watching her in her bed. smiling in her sleep. When you two first met, she told you how you both were the same, but "[you're] different". You can't bear to hurt her, but she can cheat on you without a second thought. She had promised you that the whole thing, the relationship, would "work out in the end". But she was "gravely mistaken". Chorus (second time): She can lie to you and not feel guilty about it. She still smiles in her sleep. It's not possible for a person to smile in his or her sleep unless they're at complete ease with their life. She has no qualms about lying to you. She's lying to you and you know that you deserve better. You kill her with steel and see her maroon blood, she gasps for air, but you know that you'll "see through this" and forget about her and her pale blue eyes. Now she's lying in her bed again, only this time it's a death bed, hence the eulogies that were read. But it's all fitting because she lied. Chorus (third time): Now she still smiles in her sleep, but it's her eternal sleep; she's dead. She's still smiling, but you're alone now. You know that you "deserve better than this". |

The first verse is an act of self mutilation. You're cutting yourself, "sharpening the sense of pain outside". Well, if the pain on the outside is sharpened, the inside pain is becoming dulled. You're numbing yourself on the inside. The second verse is like a continuation of the first one and it's showing how you're "killing off eveything inside". Trying not to feel. And also, you're wondering where everything went wrong. You're "trying to make sense of everything [she] tried to hide from [you]". The chorus is the way you feel, "[Your] heart bleeds no more", because you're numb now. It's just stone. You're numbing yourself from the way "[her] stomach feels sick for someone else". You know that feeling you get when you love someone so much it hurts? Well, she doesn't feel that way for you. It's for someone else. Even when you've "broken both [your] legs falling for [her]". After all this, you can't even walk alone and you're telling her to "drag [you] on the ground like you're nothing because that's how you feel like. The second chorus is about how you're stomach feels so "sore from cutting up". You know that feeling when you see someone you're falling over for? You're getting tired of that feeling because it's unrequited. Even when you "ruined all [your] sanctity for [her]. The pain, no matter how numb you are, hurts. So you're asking her to "smash [you] on the ground" because you know that it'll make her happy. She's sadistic enough to make your hopes rise and just drop them right in front of you. Plus, you get to perish now after all the things you went through. You want to convince yourself that there's nothing else to do, but just die. You want to show her that she was the one that killed you, but you can't. You're too in love with her to ever hurt her like that. "The I wanted to pretend that I was you" is a little murky, but I think that it means that you saw something in the girl. Something that you wanted to become. But in the end, you're just you. So far I have been explaining all this in a male's point of view, but it's possible to be a female in love with a man. But, this song is universal and "You're the worst thing that ever happen to me" said by a female accents this fact. PS, the same for homosexual/lesbian people too, although you'd have to switch some of the words around from the above text. |

Well, the first verse is about how you feel betrayed. You feel as though you were trusting God off and on and it's just too much to go through again. Hence the "Never again". God is supposed to test you to see if you belong in Heaven or not and it went too far and you're saying "Maybe when you find out that I'm dead you'll realize what you did to me". The second verse is about the way you won't ever let go of the way that Gond mistreated you. You want Him to save you from hell (hence the "save me when you come into the fire") because you'd "rather die than have to see [His] smile". The chorus is saying if you still survive after the suicide attempt, if God would still accept you. And if you can "make [yourself] believe, [you'd] give [Him] back what [He] took away". In other words, you'd give him back the life He ruined for you, by dying. And if you believe in Him, then it would go to Him. By killing yoursef, you are "smash[ing] apart what [He] created" which is you. And how can you ever "stop [Him] from crushing [your] soul, when it was [His] to begin with"? Or more specifically, God gave you a soul and you can't stop Him from scarring it forever because it's not rightfully yours. |
