Spoon – The Mystery Zone Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Am I the only one who thinks of the flash-sideways scenes from the final season of Lost when I hear this? |
Nickel Creek – Helena Lyrics | 18 years ago |
You're not too far off on the lyrics, but there's a few mistakes. Seulette pointed one mistake out, here's the other two (corrections in CAPS): "I never really liked HEARTS anyway" "Go ahead and tell her anything you WANT, 'CAUSE Helena, guys like me" |
Sean Watkins – Locking Doors Lyrics | 18 years ago |
LilyBear - It was a experiment they decided to try out: they came up with two song titles and then both songs around them. I actually prefer both of Chris Thile's versions, but his sister's backing vocals are great on this song. |
Soledad Brothers – Goin' back to Memphis Lyrics | 18 years ago |
this song kicks ass, extremely easy to play on guitar though |
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists – St. John The Divine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think these are the correct words, they sound right to my ears. -------- And when the world will stay the same But your place in relation to it has changed And when the word begins to lose Its power to restore and soothe And when the blackness starts its spread From behind your tired head What taxes now was once your wealth What sucks and aches becomes your health And when the night spreads into day In one unbroken spread of gray. And when the darkness fills the space Between the bone and skin of your face Seeps between your skull and brain As input filters through its stain The tightness in your brow contains What poisoned yesterday but now sustains And when the night begins its flow And you watch yourself give up control When what was cold now keeps you warm And you watch your outer self transform And the one you love Keeps the faith that you can rise above But if you've kept faith with yourself You might admit that you could use some help Remove yourself and study close When next the dark begins its flow The clinical the problem be Remove yourself and you will see When next the blackness flow begins I eat your pills, you eat my sins You take me back to prouder days But please don't take my anger away I don't pray But I humble myself I am on my knees today I don't pray |
Hell Is For Heroes – Night Vision Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I like to think of it as a song about breaking out of depression, of times when circumstances are bleak and everything seems to get darker and darker. Night vision would mean being able to imagine a happier future in the midst of a desolate present. Fences (faction) will break apart and old friends will find each other again. They'll trade memories for dreams, turning their backs on the past and looking toward the future. |
Belle & Sebastian – We Are the Sleepyheads Lyrics | 18 years ago |
I think it's about some group of people other than beggars, since that first line says "Tired LIKE the beggar". I could see this song referring to any group which is marginalized and ignored by its community, a community that mistakenly thinks they're "doing fine". Whatever the group, its members find solace in the words of Jesus - "In Luke and John, the things he said". After all, Jesus' teachings are wide and welcoming enough to appeal to radically different people: socialists, capitalists, conservatives, liberals, and so on. That particular line fits nicely with the album's larger theme of seeking answers in religion. (Picked my favorite song off the new Belle & Sebastian album for my first comment. I love the guitar bits in this.) |
