This song is unbelievable, I immediately fell in love with it! A boy & a girl meet in person, probably hanging out among mutual friends in a bar, and the guy feels insecure but curious. The girl intrigues him, so he builds her up in his imagination and over time they encounter each other again. I don't think she takes him as interested as he was, but I think she was feeling low and him taking her seriously was probably the best thing that could happen to her. The fact that he initially liked her and continued to think about her means he never really got to know her. I think this song is about thinking you've fallen in love with someone at first sight, and then getting to know them & still loving them. You find they're the person you wanted them to be or better.
