This song is a narrative about someone who is (mostly) unapologetic about his life, in spite of knowing he'll eventually answer to God (the Sun). I.e. "I've got nothing to hide...but I feel much better when I'm under a cloud." Only later, in the second half of the song, he comes close to suicide ("just one more step would have taken me there.") The underappreciation of this song is almost criminal. I mean, okay, the roxiochord is a little offputting to some. But these lyrics are so tight, they more than make up for it. |
