Number one, I agree with mechanicalbird. Don't criticize before you properly research. Maybe people should take a look at the beauty of this song instead of who should get credit for it? The fact is that this song is incredible. Jake's voice does good for these lyrics. As much as I love Conor's voice I must say that if this was sung by him it wouldn't mean the same for me. I feel that his voice holds a little more peace and a little less mystery. But those are just my opinions and are motivated probably by different experiences with the music than someone else. "So she's crying an glowing She's 3 months and showing Seeing her now makes me want to live" I don't know what he means, no one truly can unless you personally ask him. But to me this means when you see someone in a bad situation such as this, a lot of times you naturally want to help them. When you want to help someone you put yourself aside. Humans like to be needed. She makes him want to live. That's my take on it. |

I got the oppritunity to see this song live when I went to Bright Eyes in Bellingham, Washington last November. I won't go into some deep poetic depth that this song may or may not have mostly because at the concert I attended he stopped the lyrics where he found it to be necessary and explained where they came from. He was on tour when he wrote this song in the very beginning of his career. He stayed in friends houses and his brother and such because back then he couldn't afford much, obviously. I regret I can't remember every meaning of every line that he explained to us, but at the time I was so stuck to be in his presence (I was right on the stage. Watching his move seemed surreal) that they slipped my mind unfortunatley. It's a beautiful song. It makes me feel. |
