| The Beatles – Julia Lyrics

when John says "half of what i say is meaningless" I think he is being critical of his own songs. As far as I know, he often had bouts of insecurity and sometimes looked upon his older pop/love songs with disdain.
I think to John, "Julia" represents the concept of love. Because he never really knew his mother he sees her as a mysterious, untouchable yet powerful entity, much like love itself. And now that he has found Yoko, he is putting them together. |

The narrator of the song sounds so...defeated. I can't help but look at Ok Computer as a concept record and at this point of the story the protagonist as given up trying to defy the world around him.
The beauty of the song along with the lyrics makes it so tragic. It gives a false sense of serenity. Incredible... |

| Paul Simon – The Boy in the Bubble Lyrics

He seems to be exploring the dual nature of the advances in technology. We're doing amazing things with medicine but we're producing increasingly sophisticated weapons at the same time. It's almost impossible to make sense of it all; "these are the days of miracle and wonder".
While the song is beautiful, I don't find it very uplifting. I find it kind of cynical. |

| Paul Simon – All Around the World or the Myth of Fingerprints Lyrics

This is a very complicated song, much to be expected from Paul Simon. I think the phrase "myth of the fingertips" is significant. Each person's fingertip is different but that shouldn't suggest that we are that different from each other. The talk show host was a famous person but he's no better than you and I. Wars are started because of racism but we're it's just "the myth of the fingertips". |

| Radiohead – 2 + 2 = 5 (The Lukewarm) Lyrics

To me, the song seems to be about voluntary ignorance; people who choose to ignore reason and believe in nonsense. And because we haven't been "paying attention" it's the "devil's way now". The entire album is reflection on the state of the world we're living in. People voted and supported Bush and Blair despite the obvious warning signs. |

| Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics

I'm pretty conflicted over this track. Sometimes I hate it and sometimes I love it, depending on the time of day.
I think to understand it you have to take it into the context of the rest of the album. There's no doubt that Crazy diamond is about Syd and it's their tribute to the legend. However, I believe the other tracks are about their difficulty trying to deal with fame. They weren't really that popular until Dark Side and then suddenly they were considered living legends. I believe Waters especially had difficulty dealing with the business side of the music industry. Clearly shown by Welcome to the Machine and Have a cigar. It seems that Wish You were hear deals with the disulusionment of the band, they have a hard time making sense of what is going on around them.
As for the phrase "Wish you were here". I think they're literally talking to Syd. They miss the days of unihibited musical exploration; the days were they enjoyed making music. Now they have to deal with marketing and Execs who "don't get it". They finally became rock and stars but they've only found "the same old fears". |
