Brand New – The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows Lyrics 19 years ago
Amazing, delicate, catchy guitars. Great song, probably the best off of the new CD.

Hotsoupwoman, I completely agree. That is an amazing book and this is an amazing song. I wouldn't necessarily think that they wrote the song around the book, but I feel a connection in it.

Danger Doom – Sofa King Lyrics 19 years ago
Haha, I love how serious some parts are and yet they use an ATHF quote. What a great group

I think it's about slavery, discrimination, and the consequences.

Pearl Jam – Black Lyrics 19 years ago
This song may get the most airplay, which typically emanates radio restrictions and blatant corporate influences, but this is honestly my favorite song by them, the most beautiful. The guitar/piano is miraculous; the singing is harmonic; everything is perfect. And especially the lyrics are powerful.

Sunny Day Real Estate – The Blankets Were The Stairs Lyrics 19 years ago
Vincent H. It was a decent idea, but emo was talking about this stuff way back with Julia and Embrace and such in the late 80s. Lifetime and Hot Water Music influenced more of the new emo ;) But yeah I'd consider SDRE alt-rock, although they prefered to be called emo.

I have absolutely no idea what this song is about haha.

Boards of Canada – Alpha and Omega Lyrics 19 years ago
It's about freedom of religious choice.

Hot Water Music – Tradition Lyrics 19 years ago
This is about anti-capitalism. We need to completely redo the system before it can work.

Textbook Traitors – Force Fed Voices Lyrics 19 years ago
Textbook Traitors were very anti-organized religion, specifically Christianity. Or so it seems by this song. He doesn't need the promise of salvation and order in the world to live. He's above that.

I Would Set Myself on Fire for You – Chinese Freeze Tag Lyrics 19 years ago
As everyone as has stated, the singing is beautiful. The ending is great too. The viola is awesome in every song =P. I definitely need to see them live, but I was out of town when they came by Chicago =(

Their lyrics are very difficult to decipher.

I Would Set Myself on Fire for You – The First Word That Comes To Mind Lyrics 19 years ago
Thanks DarkerShadeofWinter for that passage; I was wondering what that passage was from. I'm going to have to get that book for sure.

The Appleseed Cast – Sunlit and Ascending Lyrics 19 years ago
This song is definitely the most powerful off of Peregrine, maybe tied with Blind Man's Arrow, mostly because of the guitar.

Maybe it's about hiding yourself/secrets from others and how it hurts you, because everyone is a stranger. I don't know what the author meant, but what I get from how the song sounds and how it is sang I just feel like someone who is shy and needs to get out and make friends. To release him/herself.

Between the Buried and Me – Roboturner Lyrics 20 years ago
I take this in two ways:

1) It could be just in his fanatical mind that there is someone greater than him forcing him to write this, and it's not what he is really feeling, but it's powerful.

2) I'm assuming he wrote this song after they signed to Victory Records, who are renowned for their forcefulness and focus on sales rather than the music (especially due to their recent controversey). Possibly, VR was pressuring BTBAM to write about certain things, etc. and they decided to write a song about the mainstream and popular labels and how it basically turns the songwriters into little robots/computers, writing whatever is put into them. Or something to that extent.

I think you understand what I mean.

It reminds me of Romeo and Juliet except they don't drink stuff to kill themselves, do they? Darn, I thought I was getting somewhere.

Anti-Flag – Indie Sux, Hardline Sux, Emo Sux, You Suck! Lyrics 20 years ago
First of all, I know Anti-Flag isn't serious by this song, but I'm sick of seeing so many people "dissing" emo on these comments like "God, Saves the Day sucks, thus emo sucks" Saves the Day is NOT emo. In fact, some emo even reminds me of Anti-Flag's music.

PS Bright Eyes isn't emo either. When did just because it's calm and whiny doesn't make it emo.
