Stylistically brilliant: we usually say, "its not the place or the time" meaning that in the current spaciotemporal realm, whatever it is, is not proper at the moment. The lyric expresses something wholly different. The syntax suggests that the place, the time, and the fact that I can't make you mine are are not the reasons that things are not working out. |

| The line "local pharmacist and his wife," is a reference to The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Milan Kundera. I was recently reading the book and when I came to this phrase and I knew it sounded conspicuously familiar. The Unbearable Lightness of Being is Mike Kinsella's favorite book as well so it certainly is no coincidence. It's a great book, go read it! | |
