| Ok, I read from a few sources the meaning of this song. This song is about being mostly responseble for someones death. It was an accident, but thats not how other people see things, and its causing great guilt. 'the stone' is representing a grave stone, and also the guilt that he has on his shoulders. He wants to bury leave things behind, and forget about it, but he knows he will also be affected by his stupid decision. I think the song is wrote from the perspective of his sisters husband, who killed her. Dave has said that this song was also partially based on judis being responsible for the death of jesus, and feeling the same guilt as the singer. As I think everyone probably know this song is about a hooker who once lived with pete.
