Gatsbys American Dream – Shhhhhh! I'm Listening To Reason Lyrics 18 years ago
It's not about LOTR or 9/11. The tower reference is the tower of Babel. It's definately a literary reference. Perhaps another stab at Animal Farm?(The Windmill being the tower?) But the greater symbolism there would be that it was a song criticizing bureaucracy and corporate elitism and the "brand" culture. No specific people like Bush or anything like that, but a general statement. The teens dressed in sheepskin would be teens who follow the latest trends. The wolves at bay would be the corporate elite who prey on vulnerable teens to get their money and their minds. Etc etc. The references to prom would be, again, the idea of elegance and wealth. Wanting an expensive prom dress, a stretch hummer, and a weekend prom retreat.

Oasis – Wonderwall Lyrics 19 years ago
Fun Fact: It's named after the Beatles Wonderwall album... Which was written for a movie by the same title. Guess what the plot is? Guy lives next door to a supermodel and notices a hole in the wall between their apartments. He peeks through and becomes obsessed with her. He makes more and more holes in his wall to watch her. Therefore, the wonderwall. Loving and obsessing over something he cannot have.

Anti-Flag – Mind The G.A.T.T. Lyrics 19 years ago
I concur. My favorite song from this album. Very powerful and not cheesey like some of their other songs. Catchy as all hell. Interested in this topic? Research Lee Kyung-Hae and the book referenced in their new CD "Confessions of an Economic Hit Man." You can also google "Anti-Globalization"

Anti-Flag – The W.T.O. Kills Farmers Lyrics 19 years ago
This is such a sad story. Look into it if you're interested. It was inspired by the story of Lee Kyung-Hae.

Panic! at the Disco – I Constantly Thank God For Esteban Lyrics 20 years ago
1) Dousing the lights has nothing to do with stagelights. It has to do with alter boys.

2) The song is a double entendre. It means both things. I happen to put more weight on the hypocrisy of the church considering it means more to the world than your "scene."

3)Esteban=Stephen
Stephen was one of the great men of faith in the early church. Though he was not an apostle, he holds a special place in scripture because he was chosen to minister to the widows who were being cared for in Jerusalem. It seems that some of the widows were being overlooked and neglected, so Stephen and six other men who were "full of faith and the Holy Spirit", were chosen to take care of them. He also was the first Christian martyr. Stephen was able to work miracles among the people. He began to preach and some of the Jews would argue with him about his beliefs. They took hold of Stephen and brought him before the Sanhedrin, the Jewish rulers. These were powerful men who were able to make life and death decisions about people. But Stephen was not afraid to speak the truth. As he stood before them, they saw that his face was like the face of an angel. He began to speak to them. He told about the whole history of the Jewish people beginning with Abraham. Then he accused the men, and their fathers before them, of hurting and killing the prophets, and even of killing the Righteous One, Jesus. The rulers became very angry with him, but Stephen looking up to heaven, saw the glory of God, and he saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. He told the men what he was seeing.
They put their hands over their ears because they didn't want to listen to him. They yelled at the top of their voices. They rushed at him, dragged him out of the city and began to stone him to death.

I Constantly Thank God For Esteban for standing up for what he believed in and preserving the church. Panic! is standing up for what they believe in despite the possibility of being "stoned." The corruption in the church is far too much to bare.
