I have to say that this song is about a young couple who're separated (through death or whatever) and about the one who's left always looking for the love she/he once had. In the case of the music video, the giant toy machine and the eggs represent the world and human shells. The protagonist (the boy, in this case) accepts his momentary loss, trusts fate, and lets go of the girl. Simply, this is about soul mates who are separated. It has a spiritual quality to it, in tone and in close reading. |

"save the cheerleader, save the world" is a pop culture reference, referring to the TV show Heroes. The line was used by NBC in promos and now people say it either to express the importance of something or to hype up something. |

I'm a 20-year-old pre-law student (aka nerdy and elitist) who listens mostly to The Talking Heads, Clash, and Moody Blues, and I like this song way too much. WAY too much. It's just so catchy.
a-whoa-whoa, I can't wait to see you again. |

To me, this song is a sort of conversation between the immortal soul and mortal body. Although we yearn for our souls to return to the source, we love our bodies and would like to think our time on Earth will hold importance even after death. I think it's like a farewell song to our mortal lives. |

What I get from this, it's more than just realising your parents had lives before you, experienced things you haven't experienced yet. It's about understanding what that knowledge will mean to you as you get older.
The singer is telling the young adults, the children who are coming into this understanding of their parents, that it's okay to surrender to society like your parents have, but make sure you don't give away your ideals and forget who you were when you didn't have a care in the world.
The parents in the song haven't forgotten what being young was, so the singer is saying they're all right, though their hip-ness + age seem weird to him. |

When I listen to this song, I imagine that it's about a young woman who joins a cult. |

This song was heavily inspired by an Abkhasian Circassian elder (now living in Canada) who I've been lucky enough to meet several times. As a young man, he was an accomplished equestrian and, if I remember correctly, participated in the 1936 Olympics. |
