This song just seems to fit me; insecure, distracted, unsettled... the Joanna Newsom's line "I'm a sensitive bore" (in Peach, Plum, Pear). I think it's a remarkable song, it's sweet, it's wispy, it sweeps over you, it's stray eyelashes on cheeks -- and still it's not your first heart break, it's your third or fourth. The song seems to be just a day in the life - The first verse sounds like criticism from a friend or parent about the state of the girl's life. Then some time alone to her thoughts and caffeine fix, her musings as she walks down the street and the trains running late, her thinking about her situation in life - and even though, there are some underlining themes that make me think of quarter life crisis... it's a extremely uplifting song. Because the underlining theme is, while this girl's life might seem a mess, it doesn't necessary mean the girl herself, is a mess. |

I always thought of this song as kind of a funeral song from someone who's commited suicide. It's kind of a good-bye, I'm in a better place now type of song: "... but I am cleaning up so well, I am seeing in me now, the things you swore you saw yourself." Also, this line: "so let me slip away". |

I think the guy has been tricked a few times before "I could have swore you said before 'no more, for sure'" and has come to terms with the fact she's lying and not being faithful. And I don't think he's a idiot, because he's actually figured her out; he knows she doesn't love him but is just willing to stick around for the hot arm candy. I think some people are confusing the line; "You don't love me at all... but don't think that it bothers me at all" The "don't think that it bothers me at all" is HIS final conclusion, not hers (eg, it doesn't mean, She doesn't think not loving him matters) |
