It's about a an alcoholic dad who messes up his family's life, and eventually goes over the edge and does "something," maybe a drunk driving accident or violently blowing up at his family. Presumably on vacation where responsibilities are lax |

Without going line by line, this song seems to be about finding comfort in TV and other readily-available media when the world's falling apart around you. It's about media saturation, a flood of entertainment, obsession with celebrity, and anything else we can do to keep our minds off the world's real problems. The Sun and "Flash" in this song refer to this blinding effect, the Sun especially to TV and the "Flash" maybe alluding to celebrity obsession (i.e. paparazzi).
I think the last bit of lyrics are supposed to express some of the frenzied thoughts, news bits, and other things that keep us occupied throughout our hectic days. |

This song always strangely seemed to be written as if the band knew it would be their only hit. A one-hit-wonder song about itself. They made their hit song and it's big for a few weeks, and then we're "rocking to the next big thing." They wrote a good song that would fall out of radio/video rotation, it's all in passing.
This is kind of a stretch but "Kissing the bride" implies a honeymoon thereafter, a few short-lived glory days. 45 minutes a side is definitely a cassette tape. |

This song is for those whose hopes all seem to fall short, how what you dream for never comes true. It describes a scene in a town (one's hope), and as time goes on and the present meets up with the future for which you had high hopes, it falls apart and pales in comparison for what you wished for. I get goosebumps every time I hear the "Time wears you down" outro, the music and lyrics really capture the meaning of the song for me there. |

It's about a guy who messed up a relationship and he knows it, so he's leaving and doesn't expect her to forgive him. It also might not necessarily be a boy/girl relationship, but just a trust thing in general, but it sounds pretty much like a relationship. |

Pretty obvious, it's a song about a guy who's infatuated with a girl who doesn't notice him, feeling completely hopeless and lonely. The only time he ever gets to be with her is in his dreams. Tastefully done. "Oh, stare back at me" totally sums up the feeling. Neil young played guitar on this recording, for what it's worth, this is my favorite Pearl Jam song. |

This is one of the most tastefully done songs about war I've ever heard. It's saying how everyone's more or less the same in nature, but people are inevitably pawns of the leaders of their nations. It's not fair that populations have to clash because of what their governing bodies and popular appeal have them believing.
Similarly, it could be saying that nations are judged by what their leaders are doing, and not necessarily by what their populations are wishing for. The song doesn't seem to be in regards to any nation in particular but about war and clashing civilizations as a whole. |

Not knowing anything about the band's history or personal lives, it seemed to me to be about war, as a result of a literal interpretation of the first verse. The lines "Not throwing stones at you anymore / Your name's in lights and I don't wonder anymore" sound powerful in a context of war, whether or not it's a symbol of the goings-on in one's personal life; It's like saying "I don't want to fight anymore, everyone sees your situation and knows how you feel, so let's just stop." |
