"Wish enough, wise man'll tell you a lie
Window broke, torn up screens"- these lyrics have so much meaning, they are genius. What it means to me is if you wait long enough the person you trust the most will tell you what you want to hear but it wont be true. and windows and screens are the things the open a house to the outside world. so this lie has broken the part of the person that lets him or herself open up to other people. |

ive been reading all these posts and very few if any talk about the very first line of the song. "ill tell you why i dont want to know where you are." that in itself sums up the entire song. its so unbearable that he doesnt even want to think about her because of the pain it causes him. wow. |

i know that smith was a huge fan of the beatles, so this might be a stretch but what the hell. when he says "the devil's script sells you the heart of a blackbird" he could be referring the song blackbird. meaning that the devil gives these people the chance to succeed in society but they are still uncaring and hypocrticical. as if smith is upset that these terrible people are making it in life, or at least they think they are. |

this song is not as melancholic as many of his other songs. the lightness with which he plays really suggests to me that he is speaking to someone else and feels bad for them. yeah he took alot of crap from them but he realizes hes much better not being controlled by that person. i think that if it was about himself it would sound much darker |
