Winter and Spring are motifs. Winter equals the current season and characterization of their relationship. Everything is dieing and is buried beneathe the snow in a very cold world. Their relationship is more of a battle with the Girl trying to figure out the Boy underneathe under all the cool or cold attitude. She is very good at it though and he is unable to prevent her from digging in deep. She eventually finds something that she doesn't like and tries to get out of the relationship. The second verse hints towards the Guy Cheating on her with another and she finds out. Thus she is going to leave this relationship for a better happier life. He doesn't want her to leave though. So he has his "snowbrigade" to try to stop her. Brigade is an older form of the modern day task force. A Small group of people specially trained to handle special ops. This one being a "search and capture" mission in a "wintery tundra". He can't prove to her how much he really loves her though and all of his defences arn't as strong as he though so he isn't able to get her to stay. |

| im sorry dusk and summer is ok for a "rock" album but i HATED the new ver of the song with the backing vocals and the new sounds i LOVED IT when it was live with him on the piano and only drums in the background with him singing. this song is a remeberance song best song alone similar to the SONG dusk and summer which is the CLOSEST thing to Original DC for sound there is on the new album. I COMPLETLY understand that chris cant keep putting salt into his old wounds but to completly change his sounds, idk. "I like this song but I think the ending chords need to repeat a few more times and get louder cos it kind of leaves you hanging. " -Hol Hol u may like the song but music is far above ur head the theme of the song is wishing you had kept the girl/guy from leaving u in the end the music enphisies the feeling of being left hanging. to increase the volume and repition at the end would COMPLETLY change the meaning of the songs out come. adding joy and happiness. but by cutting it short and letting the sound drown out in the distance tells of how the relationship ended without using words. any GOOD band knows how the music affects the meaning being protrayed ex. Postal Service - Brand New Colony. the begining sounds are something that could have been used for orginal nitendo games giving the idea of adolecense (sp) this theme continues through out the "I'll be" verses giving the impression that everything he wants to be for her are childish ideals of love. than the music shifts into a dark dreary sound of saddness, reality, and suggestivly asks her to leave their superficial life style and start anew together. the Instrumental Choice/Composition; Vocal Composition; and Lyrics are ALL IMPORTANT in protraying the emotions and ideas of a song. by breaking the harmony unknowningly without purpose creates a crap of sounds. |

i am like 4 years late giving an answer to everyone's q but i believe that the whole cd is about his cousin and his self destuction leading to his accident that is why the songs are too hard for him to sing at any ones request. he has admited that "For Justin" is about his cousin and if u follow the album it is liner and if you notice there are 2 perspectives. "Drowning" = friend with problem, wants to be left alone; trying to help with bad advice, no longer wanting to help. 'Anyone, Anyone" = friend unsure, asking for help; distance / not communicating; "For Justin" friend dies in accident; reflection. i have never asked chris about it but this is what i think. |

Im sorry if someone alrdy has this interpitation cuz i just read a few that i disagree with and immediatly jumped to the "Add Comment" (PS before submiting i decided to look back and johnson032 is close to the meaning but he has bits missing) "I’ve been bleeding well From this old wound Cleaning it with salt, So it will still feel new Sometimes eyes turn black, And sometimes scars are tracks But every time that you’re gone I wish that you’d come back" He is continuly (sp i know) opening up "old wounds" taking him back to how it felt when he first recieved it "so it will still feel new." but in doing so he is still missing her unable to move on "And everyone watched me waste myself And everyone cheered at last And all of them found it comforting Its better it’s me then them." This is where it begins becoming clear WHY he is reopening the wound. He is DOING IT for the fans. (To avoid confusion i am not yelling when caped locked just brings emphsis on certain parts is all ^_^.) you know i came here to give an indepth analysis for the song but it looks like GoodGirlWithAWink beat me to it. y do soooooooooooo many ppl who listen to dc AUTOMATICALLY think of suicide. he is metaphorical in most cases relating death to be with out love. and in that sense it is true. Many ppl make their partner/lover/spouse their life and when they leave or gone its like they have lost their life. BUT BUT BUT many songs that ppl BELIEVE to be about Lost Love and Desire turn out to be about something different when questioning chris. i have said this many times again Emo comes from Emotic (fictional word orginally developed from the Root "Emo" from emotions and the suffix "tic" which means roughly means "to cause" or "causing") deriving from Emotive which means "characterized by or pertaining to emotion" and/or "productive of or directed toward the emotions." In short, Emo songs do NOT HAVE TO be SUNG emotionally as long as the song can BRING TO SURFACE YOUR OWN EMOTIONS In this sense DC can be considered emo though Chris never rlly considered himself a lable. besides true "Emo's" as u like to call them detest the term "emo" and denie any connection to the label and only use it as a friendly tease (originally). |

as far as the "jerk sightings" that actually makes sense if you look at his songs. That moment he was probably still torn about the break up. With Songs like "Tonight I'll take what i can get" or lines like "the cap is twisted begging to be used and so are you. " AND it makes it even more CLEARER for the reasoning behind Morning Calls on A Mark which is a whole year after those events were posted. in morning calls he is talking about how ppl are depending on him and that he cant let them down "They need for you to be everything that they cannot " it is his reflection of his actions he commited at these jerk sightings. Chris is a nice guy but even nice guys can become mean when they have been torn time and time again just sung a song that brought them back to that time and tossed down a lot of booze. I have heard more stories about Chris in the early days sitting with the fans and sharing stories then i have about him being a jerk whether it be for imagie purposes or the actually truth but their are sides to everyone good and bad. |

Swiss Army Romance he is talking about someone who is acting as somthing they are not for the sake of acceptence from others. He sings it in a 3 person observation to allow the listeners to feel a connection rather then saying im trying to look cute in my blue jeans or making up a history has nothing from the life i lead but man will they buy all my lines. He is trying to piece together the broken relationship, prehapse even his own life, to figuere out what it really was and he is finding it is not what he expected, perhapse even Hoped it would be. "The picture's of anything other than it's meant to be" He regrets not trying to stop her from leaving. "I never said 'Don't Go' " or even at least saying "Goodbye" when it was too late to stop her It is her story and the book is Chris/relationship w/ Chris lilke it has alrdy been written before she began it. Yet Chris put his own thoughts into the book, an observation or alteration, with the "Letter" "Does he ever get the Girl" hoping that she willl come back to finish the story where she left off. I will like to comment on stardroplet saying "but that's what makes emo, emo, i s'ppose" sad songs specifically does not make up emo. Ppl have the misconception that Emo means Emotional. Meaning that the person sings the song with emotional. Where the nick name Emo comes from is the Word Emotice the orginal name of the genre. Coming from Emotive, Emotic, though not a "Dictionary Word" means to arrouse emotion or penetrating to the emotions which comes from from the combanation of the root and suffix. So to be Emo is not neccesarly sad but just something that brings out your emotions. no matter what the emotion is. and once you understand that then you can see that D/C is very Emo |

i think i should put in a side note that while these are the orignial lyrics to the song when i was DLing the song i came across a live version where he says in the begining "You know i stay here every yesterday" instead "I can't stay here every yesterday." so it is clear that the situation from when the song was released has changed since he sang it live. however the rest of the song stays in it neg tone in "I know I'll never really get inside of you To make your eyes catch fire" so while in the begining he felt that letting go was the best now he regrets not holding on. just some food for thought |

its about love that should not be, the girl is married shown by the "diamond" ring or it could simple be that she is 'taken' by another or it could in fact be that he just should not be with her. he argues with himself in the chours. he knows what he is doing is wrong but he tried to justify being with her hence "Vindicated" "I am selfish I am wrong I am right I swear I'm right swear I knew it all along and I am flawed but I am cleaning up so well I am seeing in me now the things you swore you saw yourself" and yes "dutch_angel_moi" i know what u mean about the sexual reference and i think ur right. since he uses the term current it is a constant, uncontrolable pull with an inevitable out come that he is trying to fight and once he has slept with her there is no turning back. plus when he repeats the course AFTER the sexual references its like even after he has tooken the final step he is still unsure, he STILL has to justify himself cuz his concious is getting to him. and how his hope Still "dangles on a string" is saying that there his hope is barly hanging on, that he cant completly justify his actions usually i spend more time on my analysis but i am kinda in a hurry for an essay thats due tomarrow and i was bored so yea, well this is my opinion, i may update it with a more indepth analysis later but for now this will do. |

In order to learn the meaning of nething in life u need to look at the whole then EVERY PIECE individually then put it back together with the whole to find the meaning. Think about what a "Champion" means to alot of ppl.....fine i'll just tell u. Some one strong capable of amazing things, someone to look up to as a hero who can bring hope to the hopeless. She was his strength. and he OBVIOUSLY states in the song that he "claimed her as his only hope." but in the end she "retreated" leaving him without hope. we can tell its about love gone bad by two accounts the definition of "martyr" meaning "One who makes great sacrifices or suffers much in order to further a belief, cause, or principle" and that its a DC song duh!. the "campaign" is for a working, loving relationship that all Emo's long for. but since it "died in the planning stages" the relationship was in motion but never reached an intimate stage. the one part that i am TRULY unsure of is "Does it comfort you to know you fought the good fight? Basking in your victory, hollow and alone As you boast your bitter bragging rights to anyone who will listen While you’re left with nothing tangible to gain" my thoughts though is that she is happy that she ended her relationship and the line "Does it comfort you to know you fought the good fight?" is a kind of sarcasam. since she is the one who wanted to leave then the her views of the situation would be "The Good Fight" one that had to be donw while Chris' would be abandoment an unneed confilict. and since she won "The Good Fight" she would tell everyone that she if finally happy she is out of the relationship otherwise refered to as "boast her bitter bragging rights". yet since she wanted to leave the relationship she chose to give everything up meaning that it was an empty victory and that she left "alone" w/o nething "tangible" (for those of u who dont know that mean="Possible to touch.
