| Vampire Weekend – Campus Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I just recently discovered Vampire Weekend, and their CD has been the only thing coming from my speakers for about three days. I recently told one of my guy friends that I like him ... feelings that he didn't reciprocate. We haven't talked since. I really relate to the song on that level. How am I supposed to pretend that I never want to see him again? Alternatively (and also something I've had experience with), this song describes that horrible moment that happens especially at small schools where you pass your one night stand one your way to class ... awkward!!! |

| The Chicks – Not Ready To Make Nice Lyrics | 19 years ago |

I've just recently heard this song, and while I don't agree with the Dixie Chick's slamming Bush, I do believe they had a right to speak out against what they saw as wrong. As for being a "great comeback song," aren't comebacks most effective when said/sung soon after the incident? The whole brouhaha happened what, 3 years ago? While I understand that it could've been hard for Natalie to write about the situation, three years is just too long. All this song does is dredge up the past and make another opportunity for those aganst her and the Dixie Chicks to speak out once more. |

| Rufus Wainwright – I Eat Dinner (When the Hunger's Gone) Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| Hmm . . . I always thought it was about lost love. "No more candlelight, no more romance / No more small talk when the plate is clean." And the whole balancing of male and female singing shows that a break-up/divorce affects both parties, leaving them to sit at the kitchen table (not a fancy restaurant) watching T.V. (not each other) and eating leftovers and instant mashed potatoes. | |
| Rufus Wainwright – Agnus Dei Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Whenever I hear this song, I think of suicide. The creaking at the beginning sounds like someone swinging from the rafters; the music sounds like a Requiem Mass. Rufus's sexuality is probably influencing my interpretation of the song, but, to me, at the key change, it sounds like the dead's soul rising to meet the gay Messiah. Continuity rules! |
