my interpretation: We sent out the S.O.S. call. It was a quarter past four, in the morning When the storm broke our second anchor line. Four months at sea. Four months of calm seas only To be pounded in the shallows off the tip of Montauk Point. [the entire song is an extended metaphor for his relationship with someone which is perfect until four months into it when things start to get rough i.e the reference to the boat being pounded by the waves] They call them rogues. They travel fast and alone. One hundred foot faces of God's good ocean gone wrong. What they call love is a risk, Cause you will always get hit Out of nowhere by some wave And end up on your own. [I think that their relationship has been affected by other people saying that they have a problem with it and causing problems between them. This verse is saying how he knows that love is a risk and shows the metaphor of love being like a sinking ship, his love being hit by “some wave” which is like the person who has created the problem for them. It also shows how he’s alone without her, he needs her.] The hole in the hull defied the crew’s attempts, To bail us out. And flooded the engines and radio, And half buried bow. [this verse is saying that even though other people (the crew) tried to tell them that they were going to be alright and that their relationship would last, the problem between them (the hole in the hull) is too great and has caused too many other problems (flooded the engines etc) between them already.] Your tongue is a rudder. It steers the whole ship. Sends your words past your lips Or keeps them safe behind your teeth. But the wrong words will strand you. Come off course while you sleep. Sweep your boat out to sea Or dashed to bits on the reef. [then it starts to move onto the girl cos he is willing to do whatever she wants him to. Wherever she wants the relationship to go to, that’s where it will go as her words (tongue) “steers the whole ship”. And he knows that she wants to be with him but she might be too afraid to carry on after the problems and so he is telling her to be careful what she decides because it will either bring them back together (sweep your boat out to sea) or ruin their love (dashed to bits on the reef).] The vessel groans The ocean pressures its frame. To the port I see the lighthouse Through the sleet and the rain. And I wish for one more day to give my Love and repay debts. But the morning finds our bodies washed up thirty miles west. [this is talking about how the ship is sinking just like their relationship and how despite this he can still see a way to restore it (lighthouse through sleet and rain). Then the one more day bit is self-explanitary. He wants more time to be with her but time is running out (morning find s our bodies washed up thirty miles west).] They say that the captain stays fast with the ship, Through still and storm, But this ain't the Dakota, And the water is cold, We won't have to fight for long. [this is saying that he wants to stay with the relationship until the end like a captain with his ship but he knows that there isn’t long left for him to have to stay in the relationship. The way he describes it as the water is cold suggests that it isn’t a nice ending.] This story's old but it goes on and on until we disappear, [a broken down relationship is a cliché but it’s the way it is for them] Calm me and let me taste the salt you breathed while you were underneath, [just let him take away all the pain that she felt while the relationship broke down by letting him be with her again] I am the one who haunts your dreams of mountains sunk below the sea, I spoke the words but never gave a thought of what they all could mean, I know that this is what you want, A funeral keeps both of us apart. You know that you are not alone I need you like water in my lungs. [he knows that he means a lot to her and he knows that he said a lot of things he didn’t mean and didn’t realise how much he’s affected her. He knows that she wants to be with him but their dead relationship (funeral) is in between them. But he still wants her to know that he needs her and that he wants her back.] okay that might not be your interpretation but it is definitely mine. I just had to put mine up there cos this song means exactly that to me. |

| Panic! at the Disco – London Beckoned Songs About Money Written By Machines Lyrics | 20 years ago |

okay, okay, okay. is it just me or is anyone else really really really sick of people making a big deal about whats "scene" and whats not? cos i'm sorry but music is music and it seems to me that people are beginning to associate so-called genres of music with people as well. just because i may happen to love brand new or taking back sunday does not make me "emo". i also love the velvet underground and ac/dc so what you gonna classify me as now? this is bullshit. its just people who are so desperate to "fit" into a certain group taking it to the nth degree. i don't want no stupid labels. i don't want to be told that i'm "scene" for liking what happens to be "popular" at the moment. i don't want to be told that i'm "emo" cos my msn name quotes armour for sleep. i am me. i like what i like. and i wouldn't ever want to limit myself for a title. |

| Gob – Oh! Ellin Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| it reminds me of my friend whose girlfriend cheated on him five times with five different guys and he got the chance to go out with this really great girl who is also a friend of mine but he couldn't forget his ex despite everything that she'd done. it made me real sad cos he's a great guy who doesn't deserve to be treated like shit. i really just want to tell him to get on with his life and take a chance with my friend but he still can't forget his Ellin... *sadness* | |

| Nightmare Of You – In The Bathroom Is Where I Want You Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| these lyrics are strange because at one point he's saying "just go slow..." but at the same time he wants her in the bathroom like right now. and in the bit where it goes "wait, wait i'm a gentleman in training..." it sounds as though he is battling with how he wants her right now and how he wants to fall in love with her and take it slow. | |
