Stars – Counting Stars on the Ceiling Lyrics 19 years ago
i can't help but notice a lot of similarities between this song and your ex lover is dead. it begins with taking a taxi as it begins to rain, and driving a long distance, or what seems to be a long distance.

from there the songs kinda split into different meanings i'd say. this one is a little more dark, sounds to me like its about a relationship that started with a spark, never fully caught, and just kinda petered out. thats pretty sad.

Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics 19 years ago
One thing i'm a little surpised no on had brought up is the idea of the two being brothers. He says "i come out wearing my brothers", which implies that he does have a brother. later, it describes the person that is bit by the wasp as "my best friend", but thats not to say the two aren't used interchangably, that its not appositive.
i also grew up with two older brothers, and this feels like the love my brothers and i have. teasing one another, sparring, restling, raging, felling asleep in the back of the car, swimming: its all stuff i'm sure my brothers and i did.
i also thought it could be about a person whose twin died, but merely because of "i can tell you the day we were born."
beautiful song.

Sufjan Stevens – Decatur, or Round of Applause for Your Stepmother! Lyrics 20 years ago
This song's lyrics are absolutlely beautiful. Think about the time Sufjan must have taken in every place in Illinois in order to write songs like these, and yet this is the one that made it onto the album. Not only is the song and album pleasing on a musical level, but I've never been to Illinois and I have fallen in love with the entire state because of this cd.
And, of cource, my heart wanes everytime I hear "steven a douglas is the great debator but abraham lincoln is the great emancipator"

Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics 20 years ago
I noticed no one had any comments about the relationship between this song and Casimir Pulaski Day, track 10 on illinois. two glaring similarites I noticed were between this songs content and facts about Casimir Pulaski, a revolutionary war hero with his own holidy: Casimir was shot in Savannah (Goergia, but Savannah none the less), and died abored a privateer called the wasp. The praeries also referense the track 20, and thematicly Sufjan interlaces alot of his songs, so perhaps in context of one another, this song and Casimir Pulaski Day make alot more sense. Thoughts?
